MSVCR 100.dll missing

What do I do now? Bit of a numpty where this sort of thing is concerned

I was trying to download a Monopoly game for the kids.

I am Windows 7

MSVCR 100.dll is a system file from a bygone version of Windows. Go here for a fix:

When a program for distribution is compiled it may (a) rely on the existence of certain system files (b) include a standard set of such of files to be installed or (c) a bit of both. This has tended to create the unpopular "dll hell" where such files were missing or incompatible ...

XP tended to lean towards running stuff from the year dot and making it quite easy to install old system files if needed. Although this created problems it also made it easy to sell new computers 'cos it was probable that most apps would run ok.

Windows 7 does not have the old redistribution package out-of-the box as it is MS policy not to encourage "legacy" apps such as Monopoly. Win8 is even more restrictive.

This is for Windows 7.
Linda is it 32 or 64 bit?
You can find this out easily by clicking on Start and then Control Panel.
If Control Panel is in icon view then click on System.
If it is in Category view then click on "System And Security" and then System.
Either way, the window that opens up will tell you whether it is a 32-bit or 64-bit operating system.
If it is 32-bit click here...

Whichever one you go for, then do the following...

Click on Download (you may get a pop up that suggests other downloads - just click "No thanks and continue").

After a couple of seconds a bar will appear at the bottom of your screen asking whether you want to Run or Save. click Run

Done

It is the same download whether the OS is WinXP with Service pack 3 or Windows 7. It is the 32 bit or 64 bit option that matters. It is 99.8% likely you have 32 bit.

Do NOT download and install all the other stuff that Microsoft suggests ( unless you really want to ). Just opt for "no thanks" and download just the redist which will have the file you need.

My Windows 7 comment referred to my instructions which would not be exactly the same for non Windows 7 users.

I think 0.2 per cent is a tad on the low side for Windows 7 64-bit lol

But let's not confuse the issue - my instructions above are for Windows 7 and are hopefully in a non techie language - we can save that for technical sites rather than a genealogy chat board!
