I use Clover spread on bread if making a sandwich. OH has it on his toast, but I hate it that way. I am a butter person and use Lurpak for my toast. I also use block Lurpak for baking, and lard. If I could get Co-op loose tub butter I would.
I remember when margerine was first available in the shops, and it was dearer than butter. Me mother tasted it once, and swore, 'never again', so we were bought up on butter.

I use the "ant" test ~ if ants won't eat it, neither will I!

Ants won't eat margarine, but they will eat butter.

I have a scrape of butter on toast, I don't usually put it on sandwiches.

There are loads of "spreads" made with oil, but what worries me is ~ what do they use to make it solid?

I use vegetable oil instead of butter/margarine when I'm making some cakes etc (took a lot of trial & error to get it right). The little bit of REAL butter I have won't make a huge difference to my "fat" intake.... and I buy the low salt one.

:-D

Strange you mention Kerrygold............have you noticed they now make it "softer"
wonder how they do that..........

with soft scoop icecream, they "inject"(somehow) air into it....... which makes me think that, as it is sold by volume, rather than weight........you are getting less, for your money........
likewise meat(chicken) for example also has added water.........i suspect that bacon too, is the same........

I can no longer eat butter ......... or any dairy

But equally, I have not had butter (or any kind of spread) on toast or sandwiches for many years (at least 25). I found the flavour of the jam or meat, etc, in the sandwich was much better without the butter.

The only thing was ................. if I'd been sick, the first thing I wanted to eat was a slice of toast with butter and a cup of tea!! And that lasted right up to becoming dairy intolerant!

i recently also made a discovery of what i call supermarket cheating.
One large pot of yoghurt, weighing less, costing at least 30p. more than a pack of 4 of same with more weight. How is that for confusion. Wouldnt have realised, but was feeling ill and not able to eat much, hence, the fad on these particular yoghurts.

Sue :-)

I usually buy butter, wait until the offer is on, buy 2 for such and such.!! small saving, but better than full price.

Sylvia in Canada, I love maralade on toast minus any spread however when I have potted beef, I must have it on fresh white bread with a fat layer of real butter just like Mama used to give me, I really have any spread use low fat smiley cow spread nothing to do with diary intolerance just try and not have fatty spreads...

My niece was named Kerry is called after Kerrygold butter ....lololol :-D :-D
