I've read about it on here & other forums & been a bit skeptical, I've got this cough & sore throat that's doing the rounds, Friday night i rubbed Vicks vapour rub on the soles of my feet & put me socks back on when i went to bed & NO coughing, well not till about 3 30 am so last night i put it on a bit thicker & not one cough from 11 pm till 7 45 am it's great, so can i put it on during the day as well ? can't stop coughing & it's wearing me out.

Having also read about it I'm also skeptical,

My o.h. developed a chest infection while we were away the other week and had a dreadful cough, he said it hurt his ribs. We went to a local Walk in centre and he was given antibiotics but I suggested the Vick and we bought some so he could try it on his feet - he thought I was barmy for suggesting it. He did get some relief from the coughing at night tho so tried it the second night and it worked again. I recommend it to everyone I know lol Shame I didn't think of him getting a chest infection, we now have two partly used tubs of Vick as I hadn't taken the one from home so had to buy more.

Anything that can ease night time coughing is great, you need to get your sleep when unwell or you feel dire the next day. I would imagine if you are staying home in the warm, it wouldn't hurt to use the 'remedy' in the daytime as well. Worth a try.

Hope you feel better soon McB

But does it still last for up to eight hours, Malcolm?

I might just give it a go, Malcolm. After four months my cough was finally going, now this week it has come back and at night I am wheezing and purring just like I was a month ago.

I remember, now, my Mum rubbing Vick on my feet when I was a child, had forgotten ll about it until I read this and there was me putting it on my chest !! M

I watched a programme on Channel 4 some years about Garlic. They said the Roman soldiers would place between two pieces of cloth, cloves of Garlic and place it on the soles of their feet.
I suggested this to a friend and he placed the parcel of crushed garlic into some old socks and wore these at night - it worked, good night s sleep.
