To me Roy's post doesn't come across as aggressive at all. In fact I agree with his post.

Hard to determine what is considered aggressive as the tone of voice can't be heard in the written word.

My dear SueMaid. I get upset when I see loads of question marks. To me, it means "answer, answer, answer".

I think I will try and be far more polite in future.

Thankyou very much for your points, and I value your opinion.

Sincerely yours, your good friend from South Wales ;-)

I haven't seen one of those "who are you" posts for months, Carol. Must have missed them all.

John, internet etiquette has it that capital letters are "shouting". Most of us knw why Gwen posts in capitals but new people wouldn't. I was merely explaining that perception isn't always reality.

I thought I'd made that clear.

"New members are not met with welcoming posts"

Not true. I welcome new members when I spot them as do many others. :-)

JustJohn Report 21 Feb 2013 10:13

Gwynne. I do know that aspect of interenet etiquette. Don't need to know reasons why anyone uses capitals.

But I picked up in a very short time that Dizzi was not aggressive in any way and was very glad to see posts "screaming" at me early every morning.

And no, I don't believe you made your point clear to the masses, though Dizzi and friends would have known what you meant. :-)

George Galloway MP leads the 'Respect Party' but he does not demonstrate much respect by walking out of debates.

He likes to think that he is very clever & continues to pontificate elsewhere.

John, As someone who traveled for work i would assume that you have came into contact with people from Yorkshire?

I'm from south Yorkshire, We are often told that we appear to be aggressive,

I have also traveled and thats my experience,

We are not aggressive people we just call a spade a spade and say what we think "Direct and to the point"

I don't mind admitting that i do often come across that way but it's not my intention it's just the way i am

As the saying goes people either "take me or leave me"

You will also be happy to hear that i don't actually just sit here for hours stuck to my PC screen, I do other productive things whilst being logged on, My laptop is on the side in the kitchen at the moment and i have in the last hour or so cooked breakfast for me and grand children, full English, plus cleaned cooker, pots, ex and hoovered downstairs, put the washing in washer and fed the dog,

My day and every day i try to keep as active as possible, I do all the housework cooking cleaning ironing etcetera my wife goes out to work and since i finished work Ive taken over all household duties.

For what reason did I deserve those comments John or have I confused snide remarks with humour?

Edit - I also do not sit on the computer all day.

I think the answer lies in the thread Dizzi.

Goading.

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 21 Feb 2013 10:19

I wasn't addressing the masses, John, just the people on this thread. "perception isn't always reality" seems fairly clear to me and most people, I'd have thought..

If you were aware that captal letters are viewed as angry in netiquette maybe you should have said so in your post, then I wouldn't have felt the need to explain.

JustJohn Report 21 Feb 2013 10:20

My dear SueMaid. You deserved my remarks because you are a lovely and caring person and I have decided to be nice to everyone from now on :-D

Thankyou for allowing me to reply to your post. Humbly yours, John :-) :-)

Gwynne, you are quite right to point out my shortcomings. With my best wishes, John :-D

I disagree that the boards have always been the same...or have I missed something?
When I joined there was a chat board and General topics board ..never went on the chat as it was an ongoing thread that anyone could join in live, but don't remember the backbiting .
There was a period when it did get nasty, but I think It was the time I was too busy caring for OH that I didn't notice too much...but certainly when I joined had lots of help and lovely conversation, exchanged recipes, etc etc.
It certainly was a very nice friendly site that I remember from a few years ago.

There isn't enough room on the boards for all of them, John, but I do try.

DIZZI,

I'M PUTTING THIS IN BLOCK CAPITALS AS I DON'T KNOW THE CONDITION OF YOUR EYESIGHT.

DO YOU HAVE A MAGNIFYING SCREEN TO FIT OVER YOUR COMPUTER SCREEN ?

I HAD A CHAP WORKING FOR ME WHO WAS PARTIALLY SIGHTED. HE USED A MAGNIFYING SCREEN ON HIS COMPUTER. IT WORKED A TREAT.

~Lynda~ Report 21 Feb 2013 10:25

If you looked at every thread and every post, the majority of post aren't aggressive, in fact I don't think that many are aggressive.

It's the same in real life, for instance if you go to the shops, you'll always meet the miserable old sod, who moans because there's a queue, or the ignorant one who who pushes and shoves, BUT if you have a smile or have a nice comment for people, you'll meet far more happy and contended folk, and you'll forget the moaners you meet. Maybe those who are aggressive are unhappy?

this is only a website, if anyone finds that there's aggro on one site, look on another, there's millions of sites out there.

By the way I've just noticed how many posts this thread has, maybe instead of posting on here, everyone should add a happy thread, just a thought.:-D

George Galloway loves cats. He is a very gentle and sincere politician with a keen eye for detail, Dermot. And a fierce debator.

So although not my cup of tea, he has certainly already left quite a big ring in the pool of life. And he likes cats :-D :-D

Thank you for sharing that , it gives a greater understanding of what you are trying to live and cope with on a daily basis.

Best wishes,
