He hadn't bought a coffee.
He was collecting money (street begging) in a cup and she put some change in and dropped her ring in by accident at the same time.

I must admit I had to read it twice myself!

I saw that item on the news last last, and felt quite touched. 1, Wasn't it lovely that the girl found her ring, 2, how honest of the old chap to not have sold/pawned the ring, and 3, that girl needs a medal for setting up that fund for him.

My dad always said, "If you can't do a good turn, Don't do anything" also "HONESTY IS THE BEST POLICY" it certainly paid of for him. Good luck for his future
