.....me peel and slice 25 kilos of onions for a sausage sizzle?

We normally order them ready sliced from the local prison, but yesterday the prison officers went on a 24 hr strike.

When I found out about the strike I phoned the prison only to speak to a nice young lady who informed me that she was the only one there.

What the h*ll happened to the prisoners???

As the 'civilian staff do not work over the week-end we can't pick up the pre-ordered onions, so I'm off soon to source 25 kilo's ready for Sunday

Allan ~ put the onions in the fridge for a couple of hours before you slice them.

You'll still get some tears, but not as bad

If that doesn't work, wear your swimming goggles :-D

Thanks all,

problem now solved :-)

I arrived at our local farmers' markets but before going in i phoned the prison. Bingo! The staff were aware that a couple of organisations including mine had ordered onions for this weekend. Staff were prepared to open the stores specially for us so that all the sausage sizzles planned for the weekend (which is a long weekend in WA) could go ahead.

As the sausage sizzles are usually fundraisers, in our case for charity, local prison staff are fully aware of the negative impact their Industrial action could have had on people with whom they have no dispute.

Nice one Allan :-D

Did you take any sausages to the prisoners? :-D

About the onions in the fridge............. put a few kgs in for at least half an hour, then while chopping them put more in the fridge......... etc etc etc.

If I have more than a couple of onions to chop I use the mandolin...... does it so quickly I don't have time for the tears :-)

btw ~ it's STILL raining here!! :-(

lol Scozz

Still hot and dry here for our long weekend (Labour Day)

Peeling onions has never made me cry (well normal quatities, anyway) following my service in the Army Reserve in the UK. I was exposed to so much CS (capsicum spray) gas that I have a fair tolerance to the active ingredient.

It's a long story which I may relate one day :-|
