It is really important that the heading should explain what the thread is about.

Queen will have a problem visiting Pope or Pope Emeritus in Vatican, I would have thought. One not there yet, one helicoptered out.

Glad of clarification from AnnC and Gwyn in Kent that she has been invited by Georgio Napolitano. I was afraid it would be Randy Berlusconi. :-( :-(

Saw nothing strange in preceding post, Errol. What were you thinking. Unusual for you to question other posters. Usually me you pick on ;-)

From BBC site...........

...........officials will have to decide whether or not she is well enough to fly to Rome next week. She has been invited by Italy's President Giorgio Napolitano.

It will be an encounter between an elected head of state who is retiring and a hereditary monarch who continues to reign.

As well as a formal ceremonial welcome and a private lunch, the Queen is also due to visit the Pantheon, the ancient Roman monument where two Italian kings are buried.

Queen and Prince Philip will visit Rome this spring, according to a statement from officials at Buckingham Palace. The British monarch and her husband will be in Italy's capital city from March 6 to 7. This will be her first visit to Italy in 13 years, since she visited Rome and Milan in 2000.

For most people two days in Rome sounds like a great city break. However, for the Queen international travel tends to come with responsibilities. Although details of her trip have not yet been confirmed, it is likely she will pay a visit to the Vatican and meet Pope Benedict XVI. She may also meet other local dignitaries, such as the president Giorgio Napolitano.

Today there were a lot of disappointed people in Swansea when the Queen was unable to attend a military event. She is at home in Windsor Castle with gastro-enteritis.

She is due to spend 2 days on a visit to Rome this coming week and that must now be in doubt.

What was reason for Rome visit and who was she meeting? Hope she recovers speedily.

Disclaimer. Yes, I am qualified to mention gastroenteris. I am related to HM (32nd cousin twice removed). And I live close to Swansea. :-)
