Thank you Joy - sadly these things serve just to cause everyone to run round like the chickens in the Chicken Run film

Errol, re FB - I hope not, as I have all my settings to 'Friends Only'. I really hope that means what it says.

SHEESH when will people be sensible - it is not hacking at all and as far as facebook is concerned, if you join such a site then of course your information is available

A friend of mine had her btinternet.com account hacked into a few days ago and I received an e-mail from her (not!) with a link, which I clicked on without thinking. Shortly afterwards I was blocked from my hotmail account and had to fill in quite a detailed questionnaire for it to be reinstated - I don't know if this was coincidence or not. I have since received the same e-mail in her name, which I deleted immediately, as she had later warned me and all her contacts.

Now I notice that a FB friend has posted that hackers are stealing names and profile pics and setting up new accounts and friend-requesting all those on each person's list of friends. Haven't checked that out with Snopes or Hoax-Slayer yet.

Don't we have to be wary these days?

:-(

That isn't how it usually works - if you were going to take the time and trouble to hack an account there are plenty more uses other than spamming that information could be used for!
If Yahoo and BT have been genuinely hacked then I would expect it to be major news

let us not confuse hacking with spammng

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 6 Mar 2013 18:22

that does not mean that the ccount has been hacked.
There are computer programmes used by spammers that auto-generate email addresses and send out span.
Alternatively, your friend has opened an email with a "virus" that has then mass-emailed everyone in her address book.

I have still to read whether Yahoo has been massively hacked!

I have just received an email from someone with a yahoo address. It had her name in the subject line and just a link to click on. Needless to say I deleted it rapidly and I have been in touch with her to let her know so she can check it out.

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 6 Mar 2013 17:41

this could quite likely be another one of those viral things.
If Yahoo had been hacked, would they not issue a statement and tell users what to do to combat it?

Thanks Sue. I got an email yesterday from someone I know. Luckily I didn't click the link she sent. The first and last time I did that, and it was from a member of GR, I got a blasted virus! <3

If you have a Yahoo email address wether it is Yahoo.co.uk or Yahoo.com.

Then please check your email/account hasn't been hacked as I have just got notice from another site I use to tell me about the hacking.

Luckily for me I don't use Yahoo.

But someone on here does as I got an email this morning from a certain someone which I didn't open but I will be pming her.

Sue :-) :-)
