The magazines would be too expensive to produce at all without the advertising.

I go for the ones that give free papers etc, some are really good quality and I can recoup the cost of the magazine. Use the papers for both cards and scrap book.

Ann, I know the ads., can be helpful to that particular craft, but when you think how much you pay for the magazine, it can make you wonder.
Enclosed in a plastic bag, is another ploy. The purchaser cannot view the magazine before purchase, and this has long been a bone of contention with me.
The Knitting and Crochet mags are just the same.
But I think it was the amount for sale for each craft. How do you decide which out of about six, per craft, is the best to buy, and which gives the best value for money.

i often buy card making and scrap booking magazines Julia and the adverts do sometimes come in useful for finding out where to buy the specific papers etc used in the projects. Nearly all the adverts are specific to the craft in the magazines I buy. But yes there are a lot, many of them you can't glance through because they enclose them in polythene.

Just had a day out in Derby, to get my craft 'bits and pieces', and no cheap venture was it either.
But, by the time I was due to come home, it was so cold, I've never known it so cold,I went into the market hall to fill in 10 mins.
I could not believe the amount and variety of 'Craft Magazines' for sale at the Newsagents. There must have been at least half a dozen on each craft, and I didn't believe it was possible. I was absolutely astounded. And these were for women's interersts, and most were only just under £5 each.
Looking through them carefully, to make sure I got value for money, I was astounded at the amount of advertising each contained.
I thought no thank you, and didn't buy any.
