Fry them whole, then stuff into a ciabatta bun with whatever you like in a burger, and - there you have a vegetarian burger! Lovely!

Thank you GP
Incidentally, does the term knob only ever refer to butter or is it a general cooking term?

Errol - It seems to me that size does matter - To fill the mushroom, if my calculations are correct then it would have to be a large Knob. (Puts calculator away)

Muffy you really must do something about that cough.

Something to soothe your throat maybe? Perhaps butter?

Do these mushrooms come from any particular part of the UK or do they grow all over?

You will have to let us know how they taste Errol as the wild ones I am used to do not grow till late summer.

The flat caps I have at the moment are smaller & do not have the lovely strong taste of the horse. ;-)

BK - does that help?
AnninGlos - merriment is not permitted - this is a serious thread about the delights of flat cap mushrooms.
Incidentally, I just wondered - should it be a big knob? And if so, how big is a knob? Is it an actual measurement? Or does it depend on the individual?
Grams or ounces would be useful. And how about herbs? Any recommendations on those? Someone said to me earlier that dill was appropriate.
