yes I agree Kay
They go well with a knob.
But I prefer black pepper

Do you put the stuffing in a flat cap between the tweed and lining?

Does this make it warmer?

My dad never wore a flat cap - he wore a sailor's hat :-D

I can eat them raw,,,,I think for me stuffing them spoils them,,,cheese and other stuffs then the mushroom taste is lost.....

mind they are nice grilled/baked in a dish with a little mik, cream and a knob of butter with loads of white pepper,

I never liked flat mushrooms stuffed or otherwise :-)

Should it just be left as god intended then?
Sort of laid bare for all to see and admire?
I used to do them with soft cheese and chilli but I suppose that masked the delicacy

Nothing spoils a flat mushroom than stuffing it,,,,,,it masks the natural flavour,,,,, clean, brush with a little oil &grill or bake in over for 10-15 mins,,,,.......serve with hot buttered toast,,,,,,,,,gorgus.....

Ok lose the rocket :-D :-D

When we were children, we used to go out early on Sunday mornings to pick them, on the Rother Marshes.

Mum would cook them in the oven with the bacon

Large ones I fry in butter then fill them with soft garlic and herb cheese together with crispy streaky bacon on a bed of mixed salad leaves.

massive
And the rocket is a great idea - adds a little something.

Are yours the big horse mushrooms?

Stuffed with crispy bacon, bread crumbs, crumbled goats cheese. Served with a rocket salad.

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 9 Mar 2013 16:09

yes I think they should always get stuffed.

Question is, what filling?

GeordiePride

GeordiePride Report 9 Mar 2013 16:01

Errol - Tried various ways of cooking them but I prefer to stuff them.

My old Mum trusted nothing picked by anyone else, 'you just do not know what else they have been doing' :-0

I actually prefer flat caps over buttons as they have better taste.

Ours are going to be cooked whole in a little melted butter & being served with Fillet steak, baked tomatoes fried onions & chips.

Last of the summer wine? huh? You have drained the bottle? there is none left to go with the flat caps?

Very disappointed and crestfallen

Nice with a filling of bacon & goats cheese

Do make sure you wash them well though or you might get a stray hair.
