I have recently found out that one of my distant relatives could have died. How can I find out that this is correct. I do not know where they were living at the time of the possible death as they often moved around the country.

Putting their name into a Google search might show up an obituary notice in a newspaper.

I don't know if you're in England, but here, every local records office has BMD's for the whole country up until 6 months ago.
You have to join to view, but it's free. Just take along something with your signature on (passport or driving licence is best), and a utility bill.

Maggie
I don't think many places hold the full index due to costs, but would love to hear that I'm wrong.

I am waiting to update my records.

Thank you Gwyn I have tried this but it didn't come up with anything.
maggiewinchester thank you if I live in Grimsby would I be able to get records for someone in Northamptonshire or possibly Derbyshire, these can both be places where he resided before his death.
I have just tried the website but unless I pay for a certificate can't get to know the answers but it is asking for the year and place of death which I don't know
