Anyone see Edie Falco last night. Mother's family again. Went back to Penzance and a Sister KINDLEY (no sign of a husband) who was 10 and an orphan in Cornwall in 1841C living with maternal grandmother CHILDS.

Sister Kindley was "born at sea" and was an only child. Her mother died when she was 2 (mother aged 28) and father died just before 1840C and he was very young too. Father Captain Kindley was a master mariner and sailed a 3 rigged ship all over (Africa, New York etc).

Son of Sister Kindley was Charles Childs BROWN born Milwaukee (though family tree said Wales). Think that bit was skated over rather, unless I was falling asleep :-D

PP Will try and watch a Find Your Roots. I love those type of programmes and found the last series quite disappointing of WDYTYA..

I like the fact I don't know much about these stars on USA one. And it is such a punchy and positive style of presentation with plenty of "wows".

It would be great if they could do programmes with ordinary folk in Britain who have not really got to grips with their family history. You could make half a dozen programmes with ordinary descendents of Rhondda coalminers. Ancestors came from all over - mid and north Wales, Scotland, Italy, all over England, Ireland. All very Welsh families today who have no idea usually of where their families originated.

So glad others (Liz and Suzanne) are watching American WDYTYA and enjoying it also. :-D

I have watched those programmes and found them very interesting. I didn't mind that I wasn't familiar with the 'stars' (except Martin Sheen) the stories that came out were fascinating.

If you have enjoyed this and can get the PBS channel on Sky (166) they are currently showing

Find Your Roots

It is fantastic, probably more enjoyable that WDYTYA and so far the best was Kevin Bacon & Kyra Sedgewick.

And the presenter, I want him to be my grandad he is lovely.

:-)

I am watching a series of American "Who Do You Think You Are?". It is on BBC1 Wales at 11.30pm approx every Tuesday. Last week it was Rashida Jones and this week it was Rob Lowe. Rashida was looking at mum's Jewish forebears and Rob was also on maternal side looking for his 5 x gt grandfather John Christopher East b 1754 who was involved in fighting in American War of Independence.

I had no idea who they were (not good on popular culture) and I think only Martin Sheen is known to me - then not really.

I think the two programmes I have watched have been fantastic. So professional, so very interesting. Anybody else watching them?
