All still there Mau. Although I haven't been down for a couple of years. I have lived in Southampton since 1970 - Southampton has the Mayflower Park and Plymouth has the Mayflower Steps - a bit of rivalry between the 2 cities - the little fleet left from Southampton but had to call into Plymouth for repairs etc. I trust your honeymoon was enjoyable in my home town. I stood for the Council in 1960 in Plymouth - "A young man for a modern city" was my rallying call. Didn't get in but it was fun. Like the thread because it is interesting - non contentious - and promoted some lovely little stories.

{can have a glass of wine without worrying}......that's as good a reason as any Ann :-D

....spent a week in Plymouth while on honeymoon :-) is the Barbican Wall mural still there? of course I'm talking 1960s here ;-) and recall swimming in the open air pool. We stayed on The Hoe :-D

edit: on second thoughts we saw the mural while on holiday there in the seventies ....en route to Cornwall...

I have enjoyed reading this post.

So would I we save a fortune in parking charges by not taking the car into town. And, when we go to wetherspoons for lunch, oh can have a glass of wine without worrying. And.... you can see so much more from the top of the bus!!! :-D

Yes Susan the Metro is a great way to travel...quick and comfortable :-D... glad you've a good bus service Ann as I'd hate to have to live with only one bus three times a week like Lynda has to :-0 :-(

Our bus service is excellent. Every ten minutes, Cheltenham in one direction and Gloucester in the other about 15 minutes to Glos and 20 minutes to Cheltenham, traffic and road works allowing. Bus stop for both five minutes walk from home, bus stop in both towns right in centre. :-)

I envy you living on Tyneside, Mau - the public transport is wonderful. Norfolk has a pathetic service, our village only gets a bus three times a week!

I haven't been on a bus since I was a teenager, even then I preferred to walk. A few coaches where we always ended up singing though. :-D

I wish we had the metro where I live Mau. I think there should be a Metro everywhere. With yours you can go in any direction and be there in minutes....sighs with the memory :-)

I never thought I would enjoy a coach tour, but we did one to Eastern USA and Canada last year, and loved it because of the people we met. Very few Brits, but mainly Australians, Americans - even a lady from the Mauritius. Chatting to them, and overhearing conversations was really entertaining.
I now realise what we've been missing!

had a lovely conversation a few days ago with the guy who runs a fish and chip shop in our village - asked him where he came from - Pakistan - he then showed me some pictures of where he lived - the Swat Valley - what a fantastic beautiful place - he has family there still - they have a farm and they grow rice and peaches - why on earth he chooses to live here I have no idea

I love having conversations on holiday with other folk,surely that's the way it should be,and especially if they live in different parts of the world. With lots to learn... and how nice it would be if all cultures could live together in harmony :-D

So what happened to the Driver and the Bentley Hayley? Come on hard times now ?or are Royalty getting back to their roots? :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D ;-)

Yet whilst on holiday I am totally different I love chatting to people and making friends so does Itsmytelly where as my sister is the opp, I sat round the pool one day and I was sat on my sunbed and struck up a conversation with a lady from Canada lenght of flights where do you live and so on, my sister came and plonked her self next to be me never said a word but later whilst talking to her OH she said " I was talking to a women round the pool today" and I said no you wasnt I was you never spoke, her reply was well I was listening. :-D

My Mum doesn't shout but she has one of those voices that carry a long way!! When she came down last year, my sister and I took her to Bath, using the Park & Ride. The bus was quite full so I went upstairs and sat next to the stairwell. Mum has always denied that she is 'loud' but when I recounted what I'd heard from the top deck, she went very quiet... :-D

The worst thing on our bus is the fact that people don't seem to want to keep conversations private any more. They shout on the phone and they shout when sitting next to each other (male and female). Then we have the young families that get on (and I mean young 17/18 year olds), Mum and Dad and two or three little ones plus usually one in a buggy. Mum and buggy park themselves at front of bus and baby proceeeds to grizzle or scream or both, Dad takes toddlers to the back of the bus which is elevated so they can all see each other. Mum and Dad then proceed to hold a conversation about their lives (which is not at all interesting) across the bus and the rest of us, until they get off. Why????

overheard on a bus - woman telling her companion - I've just bought a lovely stimulated sheepskin coat" the mind boggles :-D
