Suppose that could have been the start of him having health problems.

I like Paul Laidlaw and James Lewis as they really look for bargains.
I like Anita..she is a wonderful auctioneer but not quite as good at buying as others have said ..the antiques seem to go for much higher prices in .Glasgow...wonder why?

It's still enjoyable to watch, just don't take it too seriously. I read somewhere that David Barby died from a brain haemorrhage caused by a fall. Shame, nice chap.

Next thing will be that someone will say they don't kick their leg in the air at the end - that it is somehow put on with computer graphics.

I can only find Paul Laidlaw is associated with Cumberland - but I would bet a lot of money he is more Scottish than haggis or Mel Gibson.

Still miss old David Barby - sad loss to antiques. Saw a BH couple of days ago when he looked poorly. First time I had seen him not brimming with health and vitality.

I cannot get over the fact that Tim is 7 years younger than me (and 13 years younger than Cliff Richard). I feel old, then I look at him!! But he is great - such an improvement on previous tenant (clue: DD works wonders) ;-)

My grandma used to love Kent Walton and the wrestling till somebody suggested it was fake. ;-)

A neighbour is an occasional Dealer at Fairs, and has a number of Professional Dealers as friendly acquaintance.

They hate the programme as it is mainly a con.
The production team scour the stalls/shops before the participants arrive, and select various items. They agree a price with the dealer. The Participants and Experts appear to haggle, the Dealers being given the difference off camera.

It’s even been known for an item to be purchased, and then try to sell it back to the Dealer as it wasn’t used in the Show.

At one Fair, one of the Experts wanted to borrow a rare piece of furniture and was upset when the Dealer refused. He wouldn’t be able to sell it while the TV crew had it.

Although it’s entertaining viewing, the Dealers think that it gives an untrue impression to the general public. Dealing is their livelihood: if they sold to everyone at the reduced prices they *appear* give to the programme, they’d never make a profit

My favourite is the Scottish sounding chap but I thought he was from Cumberland. He has an eye for the antiques that will and do make a profit. Love Anita too. I do feel that the people at the Scottish auctions seem more willing to pay reasonable prices.
Some of the people at auction houses South of the border seem particularly mean.
I can't believe some of the prices for jewellery.

I agree about Tim, Catherine and Anita. Lovely programme, fantastic people.

Also love Kate Bliss, Paul Laidlaw and Mark Stacey. Kate is just so lovely, Paul is so Scottish he makes Anita sound like a Sassenach and Mark is Welsh and so funny - has me in stitches :-D :-D

Thanks for the info,OneFoot, I think she's a great character. When the auctions are in Scotland, the buyers always seem to be the most enthusiastic - especially when she's the auctioneer, and thing seem to bring the highest prices. :-)

I watch it everyday, being a Scotsman,my favourite has to be Anita Manning - a true Glaswegian ;-)

A Bit About Anita:-

Her infectious enthusiasm for her subject has made her an ambassador for the antiques profession.

Anita's always been interested in antiques, and has been buying and selling them for forty years. She runs an auction house in Scotland with her daughter Lala.

Anita's specialist area is paintings, and her favourite era is 20th Century Scottish contemporary artists.

Anita Louisa Manning was born on the 1st December in Glasgow.
Growing up in the 50s and 1960s Anita Manning was not a fan of the contemporary design and trends and preferred the Victorian look and feel of her grandparents’ house.

As a child her father used to take her to the auctions. She grew to love this environment with its treasures, excitement and its sense of theatre

Anita enjoyed finding and wearing stylish 20, 30,s and 40,s clothes to go out in at the weekends,

In 1988 her skill at both buying and selling antiques led her to establish Great Western Auctions Ltd in Glasgow and was probably Scotland’s first female Auctioneer.

Watch Bargain Hunt everyday while having lunch, and despite the continuous repeats, we love it, contrived though it is. Anita is my particular favourite - when she gets onto her feet, you know there will be a bigger profit!
