New ideas and a fresh approach... the avatar idea is over two years old... hardly something novel.

I guess I will be old fashioned and go back to my original one... that will keep my mother happy and my great aunt.. :-)

Mauonthecoast - what a fun image.

It is called keeping up with the times - lightening the mood.

Yes, yes I know mine needs changing - it is sort of sentimental for me. Really need one that is a bit weird and wacky or something more in tune with my spiritual side.

NS .......................

but why are you pressuring people now to put up an avatar, or to regularly change their avatar???

those of us older members who want to have one have had them for the last 2+ years, ever since we had the ability to decorate the site ............... and we change them as and when we wish to, not on command

Older members who do not wish to have them, or who have difficulty replacing them are perfectly free to do as they wish.

and we all have chosen old pictures, new ones or whatever, as we feel like

Part of me does in fact dislike them on GR ................. I do not think pretty pictures have any kind of place on a serious site ................. and yet I am as guilty as anyone of posting pretty flowers, views, etc.

I've noticed OH never thinks I am working on anything serious when he comes in and sees these pictures displayed on GR ............... and on some other genealogy sites.

He thinks I am just wasting time on a chat site.

I must admit that I am in general rather horrified by the number of "modern" pictures that are posted as avatars ..................... especially those of children ............... both on here and on FB

But i guess I am just another old fogey concerned about security and identity loss.

Seeing as we have been able to put on a profile pic for two years, why did you only add one in the last month or so NS?

I had one of my profile pics removed on here....so they too have to nice and not upset anyone...

RamblingRose :-D :-D Just love your new one - so cool.

I know it all down to personal choice but....jokes aside.

Taking about the past is sometimes rather tiresome. New ideas and a fresh approach is often the way forward.

Agrees with GB, certainly not compulsory to have an avatar. People that use a red filter on their screen wouldn't see the pics anyway.

I would have too :-)

Persephone Report 22 May 2013 00:01

Are you getting a complex RR? If it had been reported I would have backed you up not just on here but straight to powers that be.

Yes always was my best side

Certainly not worth putting a picture of my face on here as that really would scare the members ;-)

Persephone

Persephone Report 21 May 2013 23:39

Mind you GB you are showing your best side in that photo...

We had a Prime Minister here many years ago that would only allow his photo to be taken as a right profile.

:-)

Edit: sorri Sue darling I was typing when you popped in and I agree with you.

A rather unpleasant comment, NanaSue :-(

"Sad that there are still a couple of old moaners who just refuse to add one.
One cannot help but feel sorry for them - they refuse to take on something new."

Can not believe I have read those comments.

It is not compulosry to add one !!!

Have you not given any thought to the members that use specially adapted computers so they can "read" the boards by listening. I know of two such members and there are probably more that do not advertise that fact.

Persephone

Persephone Report 21 May 2013 23:27

When GR first gave us the option to have avatars there were a lot of comments on them. I remember Mildred taking ages to actually get hers to work.

Mr Jones Avatar is a lot more wrinkly than the original.. he changed it one Christmas and when he went back to the original picture it did not reproduce him as he was... sort of a back to front before and after the wrinkle cream was applied.

Some people believe it or not who changed their avatars regularly can no longer do so and are stuck with an image that they no longer wish to have.

And RR is correct (often is) ;-) If you cannot see other avatars why would you want one.

Others may not want them but that hardly qualifies them as moaners and others may not know exactly how it is done and are still finding their way around the boards.

Persie :-)
