Gosh John, you certainly seem to have a detailed insight into Mrs T's family relationships, though why this should be relevant to her time as our PM I 'm blessed if I know!!! I wouldn't have thought that is anybody's business but the family concerned, but there you go perhaps I'm wrong and we should all concern ourselves with other peoples's family life! I think the Queen can decide for herself who she mixes with which is frankly nothing to do with any of us least of all you! I appreciate that you have clearly led a blameless life, so perhaps you do find it hard to understand that other lesser mortals do have family strife and make mistakes, mostly within the privacy of our own homes and not in the public glare.

Finding it hard to understand why the OP has been RR'd...whether some like it or not this song has been released and is selling so it's a relevant enough thread ...

John, can I just say the same as I posted on another thread, no politician put us on a 3 day week, The miners did that through on going industrial action thus holding the country and fellow citizens/workers to ransom (sod the rest of you I'm all right Jack) attitude

and

Churchill led us through our darkest hour in war time

Thatcher led us through our darkest hour in peace time

All politicians have enemies in life - that is part and parcel of the job.

But politics is the art of reconciliation for the common good. Listening to views and persuasion. Not closing your eyes and ears and hectoring and lecturing.

Clem Attlee upset a lot of people, Churchill is still very disliked in my valley for something he did 100 years ago, MacMillan made enemies in his night of the long knives, Eden took us into a damaging battle in the Suez, Wilson gave honours to his cronies - Lord Gannex, Baroness Falkender etc, Heath put us on a 3 day week and the pips really squeaked in working families, Callaghan was quite a good Chancellor, can't even remember what he (or Douglas-Home) achieved as PM..

But all of them had an ordinary and well-attended funeral (Churchill's State Funeral was because he took Britain through its darkest hour, I believe). And even their political enemies spoke fondly about them in death. I watched about half an hour of the sixth hour of eulogies in the Commons last night fro Mrs T. About 12 Tories in chamber and 2 on Opposition front bench.

An hour of Commons business would have been sufficient for eulogies from MPs, followed by one hour debates about bedroom tax, ATOS assessments, youth unemployment etc.

You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life.

Joy. She was quite small and pretty, very smart and had beautiful and piercing blue eyes. Only met her once briefly, but could understand why men in her Cabinet fell under her spell. :-)

Paul Murphy (Secretary of State for Northern Ireland a few years ago) stayed in constituency of Torfaen today.

On the radio he demolished the so-called achievements of Mrs T. He said she did the right thing in the Falklands, but otherwise she was a 13 year disaster. The poll tax was the death knell, but many other things too. She just had this fixed idea about how the country should be run and would not listen to advice. And the worst thing was that she pushed John Major into her job once she had to go - and, nice man that he was, he was not in the same league as Michael Hesletine and Kenneth Clark.

Great claims are made that she was a mother. She has had a most strained relationship with her daughter, who is by far the brighter of her twins and a very nice woman. And she has idolised her son, who got lost in the middle of the Sahara 30 years ago in a rally, trying to locate his gear stick. Got involved in all sorts of shady business deals. And he narrowly escaped the death sentence for war crimes in Central Africa, is currently on a long suspended prison sentence and has lived as far away from his mother as possible most of his life.

Not the right sort of people for the Queen to have to mix with next Wednesday, I would have thought.
