same thing over here .......................

except replace thos who drive slowly, with many more who believe they have thr right to go whatever speed they want.

School zone?? "I have no need to got at 30 km/hr, I want to go at 60"

highway?? "speed limit 90?? I have to go at 120"

I don't drive ................. thank 'eavens!!

But OH has been hooted at, on city streets, when he's going within 5 kph of the speed limit ................. the other drivers want to go at least 10 or 20 kph above it.

Barney

A New York Minute - that is the description of that nanosecond when the lights turn green and you get honked at immediately for not moving off with the reactions of a superhero.

:-D :-D :-D

I knew I was going to fail one test when I noticed I was signalling with one hand and changing gear with the other.

One good habit that seems to have come from the M25 is the idea of putting on your hazards when you are the last one in a traffic jam to warn others coming along behind.

I do it now on local roads.

It seems to be the case in my area that if there are 5 cars at traffic lights only three will get across before the amber comes up!!

and I wonder if the designer was " On a Trip" when he decided to give priority to cars coming from a car park, ie sainsbury's.......over a main road.......

Having spent far too many years as a van driver, I have to be careful not to be a backseat driver with OH. His reflexes are not what mine are (read that as his right foot is not as heavy!)

The thing that I had to explain to him was that, if you are going on to a round- about on the left side of a very large lorry, it is not necessary to wait until the lorry has gone before you pull out yourself. It is most unlikely that anything will come underneath the lorry and hit you.

Quite so, Sharron

How would you deal with the newfangled thing on some roundabouts, where lanes "grow" from the centre of the roundabout/?

I was taught turning right offside lane, straight across centre lane, turning left ....left lane.........

Not so, near me to do a 270 turn you occupy the offside lane and then the lane appears to "push" you over leftwards......but the arrows in the lanes are straight arrows, ie KEEP in this lane.......My teaching was 360.......off side lane, 270 centre lane 90 or 180, left lane...........

On a serious note, if you are about to be next to a lorry on a curve and you would be on the inside of the curve you must hang back.

As an (as yet) non-driver, you would think the orange hazard lights negate the double yellow lines the car is parked on.
As for cr prks (usually multi-story) with an exit that crosses a pavement - that bit of pavement suddenly becomes a bit of road. Cars don't bother slowing down to see if a pedestrian is walking by.

Many, many car drivers need to have one piece of knowledge rammed into their brains - when you're out of your 'oh so safe in an accident car with air bags etc' You are a pedestrian!!!

There used to be a huge roundabout, called the Rotary, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, which had the opposite rules to all other roundabouts ....................................

.................. traffic entering the roundabout had the right of way, and all traffic circumnavigating the roundabout had to stop to allow vehicles in from the roads.

There are 5 roads entering it, about 60,000 vehicles use it on weekdays although it was built around 1945 to handle 5,000 - 10,000

It was a nightmare, especially for visitors to the city!!

They changed the rules about 8 years ago, so it now operates as do all other roundabouts around the world!

Don't get me started lol! There are too many things that bug me to list them here.

All the above as others have mentioned and probably more but if I try and think about them I will get steamed up and it's time for bed!

Thanks for all your comments - it would seem that everyone else on the road is an idiot except for the few perfect drivers who post on GR boards !

Sharron

Sharron Report 29 Jun 2013 09:26

It is always a good idea to think that way and make allowances for their idiocy.

Bobtanian

Bobtanian Report 29 Jun 2013 09:49

no
LOL

I am not perfect...........just better than most......

Bob

Just another thing that Irks me, why, when IN a dedicate direction lane, filter lights at traffic lights eg.... do drivers sit there with the indicators going?

ok, indicate to get there..............but

Sharron

Sharron Report 29 Jun 2013 10:14

I always indicate, even if there is nobody else about.

I kind of do it without thinking but do feel it is a better habit to get into than to be in the habit of not indicating.

There is a piece of film on the television of somebody being chased by the police who indicates at every turn.

That could be me!

On another note,

regarding our US neighbours......

do you know why they dont seem able to reverse into a carparking space?

and why their phone numbers appear always to be 555.............something?

Sharron

Sharron Report 29 Jun 2013 20:38

I know I can't reverse my Smart because it is not long enough. I have to back it in to the curb at home because I can't parallel park it.

Many years ago I drove a 15cwt Bedford which I could park with three inches either end but, as soon as I tried to park my own Mini I was lost!

Bobtanian Report 29 Jun 2013 20:56

I was Driving a Ducato, for a while, with fully closed doors so I HAD to learn to parkup using the mirrors......

It aint one of them with a camera on the roof is it?
