I presume the child behaves proprely around other people, just plays up her mother.
Sounds like her mum has made a rod for her own back!!
Almost every child will 'try it on', it usually just means being VERY strict for a month or so, to establish just exactly who calls the tune.

Both my daughters were absolute horros at certain times in their childhood, they hated me when I put my foot down.
Now they're older, they have both apologised.

It's quite funny, I'll get a random text from one or the other saying 'Sorry for being a s***', I love you'.
I then phone up to see what they're apologising for - and it's things they remember doing when younger. :-D

ONE YOUNGER CHILD (FEMALE) BEING AN TOTAL HORROR
ALL THE TIME,SO FRIEND ASKS CAN SHE GO ROUND,
MUM SAYS GREAT GO,,,
THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME,GOING TO FRIENDS FOR PIZZA,
TODAY A PARTY
WHEN HER MUM WAS HER AGE YOU ONLY HAD TREATS IF GOOD,NOW
BE AS NASTY AS YOU CAN YOU THE BETTER IT GETS,
HER MUM SAYS THERE NOT TREATS BUT TO MY BELIEF IT IS,THROW A TANTRUM GET WHAT YOU WANT (this isnt a little child)
