I think we can rule out Albert William Kendrick. I think this could be the death of his wife:

England & Wales, Death Index, 1916-2007

Name: Hilda Margaret Kendrick
Birth Date: 26 Feb 1900
Date of Registration: Jun 1974
Age at Death: 74
Registration District: Portsmouth
Inferred County: Hampshire
Volume: 20
Page: 0558

This was his marriage, I think:

England & Wales, Marriage Index, 1916-2005

Name: Albert W Kendrick
Spouse Surname: Jupe
Date of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep 1920
Registration District: Portsmouth
Inferred County: Southampton
Volume Number: 2b
Page Number: 1219

She was Hilda Margaret Jupe.

I think the Albert William Kendrick who died in 1973 was possibly too young to be Hilda Margaret's father as she would have been born 1908/09

England & Wales, Death Index, 1916-2007

Name: Albert William Kendrick
Birth Date: 9 Aug 1896
Date of Registration: Jun 1973
Age at Death: 76
Registration District: Portsmouth
Inferred County: Hampshire
Volume: 6b

If Albert KENDRICK was a boilermaker in Portsmouth he could have worked at the power station in Old Portsmouth. Or, alternatively, in Portsmouth Dockyard.

I had been going to suggest contacting the Carl Rosa opera company for further info but sadly they have this on their contact page:

"We would very much appreciate anyone who has information about past relatives and family members who worked with, or were associated to, the original Carl Rosa Opera, pre 1969, to please send us copies of any information you have as we can build and expand upon our archive.

Unfortunately, we do not have the resources to supply any information to those seeking details on past performers. We receive several requests a week, and we presently are unable to deal with these without an archivist."

http://www.carlrosaopera.co.uk/admin/contact.asp

However, they may still be interested to hear from a relative.

Annna do you know who Margaret Hilda parents were and how Albert who died in Portsmouth fits in? It is just possible that he was her father.

MarieCeleste Report 30 Jun 2013 17:59

Annina - the newspaper reports said she was unemployed.

Given the coverage that the story got, and the detail they went into about both parties, if she'd been performing as a singer that night I'm sure it would have been mentioned. The article in the Western Daily Press says that when pushed Miss Kendrick wrote down the name of the woman she had been with earlier on the night.

I've searched and searched for articles about a Maria Theresa Coppell as a singer (including variations and permutations of the names) but sadly I can't find any.

Annina Report 30 Jun 2013 17:44

Marie,I also thought that, also the reason that she was out so late,is that she would drop in the pub after working at the theatre,I believe that the whole troupe would do that.
Anyone have any thoughts on the origins of Mr Rysart,German? German Jew?

Arn't families odd? My maiden name is not at all common in Blighty but is like Smith in Germany, despite my dad coming from a long line of Yorkshire and Derbyshire people,at least as far back as the early 1600s,I have also recently learned that my first name is German also. :-D :-D :-D

If you go to the link given by LadyKira and then hold down the control key and press the plus key it increases the size of the article. You can do this as many times as you want, to decrease hold down the control key and press the minus key

This method of zooming works on most things.

Hey, this is wonderful, never knew any of this.

Sorry for confusion, she was named Hilda Margaret on her death cert,Margaret Hilda on my mothers birth cert, and Hilda Marjorie on H V C Kendricks birth cert.

I don't know why they are different, but they do apply to the same woman of that I am certain.

I also have the death cert of the father of her second baby,1967 Hyde Kent where he is described as a civil engineer.

I do know that her stage name was Maria Theresa Copell.

The newspaper article is interesting, was this in a paper local to Bristol?
