TBN ........... thank you

~Lynda~ ...........

Good for you!!

we MUST not give in to them, or allow them to drive US off any site.

United we win

Divided, we fall, and they win!

Well put Sylvia,

I will never purposely look for trolls but if one finds me and or others on any site I will challenge them.

Just as in real life they are only human and as such they have weaknesses just the same as the rest of us

Pointless trying to ignore them because that would take every board user to agree to do the same and the troll will probe and seek out any member with a weakness to exploit,

I don't think the trolls on here these days match the ones we had a few years ago.

Jonesey,

How many times have you been rr'd before?

Presumably a troll just did not like you.

AnnCardiff Report 3 Jul 2013 23:06

oh gawd - here we go again :-(

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 3 Jul 2013 23:23

I doubt the RR was because Jonesey has posted an inflammatory OP - because it isn't inflammatory. I would say that someone didn't think the thread was fiery enough and decided to add a bit of spice to liven it up :-|

Oh dear , this RRing is getting so tiresome. I have seen this thread on the board since this morning and read all of the postings, so why has someone reported at this time of night ?

No doubt it will be reinstated tomorrow, so it will enable anyone who has not seen it to make up their own minds about it. :-(

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 4 Jul 2013 01:06

I hope the RR is NOT uphedl!

Susan Report 4 Jul 2013 04:32

I can't see how Genes could possibly agree with this RR,there was not one bad word in it just the facts.

I am also with all of you .

I cannot see for the life of me what these people get out of trying to distroy Genes Boards :-S

Another day of mayhem in front of us ,no wonder the boards are so quiet ....who would want to be part of all of this all the time :-(

LadyScozz

LadyScozz Report 4 Jul 2013 05:25

Nothing inflammatory in Jonesey's OP.

Most people agree with it.............. except for the RR'r!!!!!!!!!!

It's about time SOMETHING was done about this ridiculous situation.

:-P

WELL! I never, ever, thought that I would see the day when a thread posted by Jonesey was RR'd.

Whoever has done this, obviously doesn't know that this gentleman is one of the most liked and respected members on the Community Boards.

His comments are always polite, sensible, helpful and thoughtfully well-written - usually with a dash of humour included.

He has written several helpful threads on various genealogical issues which have been widely praised and of great benefit to many members.

His advice on this particular subject was above reproach, even though I realise that some find it difficult not to retaliate when wounded, but this is where self-control comes into the situation.

I sincerely hope that the post is soon re-instated and that GR put a speedy stop to all this 'trolling' nonsense.

It looks as if my OP has touched a nerve. My guess is that the person who referred it probably did so because they objected to having their Troll modus operandi exposed. ;-)

It will be interesting to see how GR view the situation. Hopefully the OP will be restored shortly. Equally hopefully, if it is restored GR will take appropriate action against whoever referred it.

Patchem, This is only the 2nd time a post of mine has been referred. The first was about 3 years ago so I'm not what you might call a persistent offender.

TheBlackKnight, Regarding your Official Genes Reunited RR Club badge. Does GR send one to you automatically when someone refers one of your posts or do you have to apply to GR for membership? ;-)

I knew nothing about trolls and wums till I had been on Genes chat for a couple of months and someone called me both a troll and a wum. :-D :-D :-D

I started a fun type of thread yesterday asking who were trolls and wums in the House of Commons, and that got zapped apparently within minutes. Went to have some supper and there were no posts, 12 views. Came back after supper and the first post said something like "that was quick".

I rather think both these threads will be pulled and both Jonesey and I will have our fingers slapped for causing trouble. And I am sure we both feel that we put up threads that would not cause any disharmony but would prove interesting.

Ah well :-( :-( Put two paper/cardboard recycleable bags out this morning. Bagged my tins and bottles and put them out 2 minutes later and previous two paper/cardboard bags had disappeared. One blown 20 yards away, other disappeared altogether. So it is windy in Rhondda (changing subject - troll tendencies) ;-) But seems safer ground.

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 4 Jul 2013 09:22

well I for one would be shocked if this thread is pulled - no reason for it at all

I read your thread, but no longer comment on them - however, thought to myself "this is not going last long" - how right I was. I think mentioning GR in the way you did was the main problem

Porkie_Pie

Porkie_Pie Report 4 Jul 2013 09:25

Jonesey, GR don't send you a RR badge automatically, You are awarded the badge when you arrive at the norty step,

Their are 3 different levels of badges awarded as follows

1, Turn up with a large cushion will get you a bronze

2, Turn up with cushion and 10 woodbines gets you a silver

3, Turn up with cushion, 20 woodbine and alcohol gets you a Gold

Turn up with all the above plus CAKE gets you Gold plus a mention in dispatches :-D

Roy

Edited because :-S ;-)

When I first read Jonesey's opening post, my thoughts were, oh dear some will not like that, and wondered how long it would take before the thread was reported - so I was not surprised this morning to see that it had been.

I read somewhere that trolls are so obsessed with their own self importance that they will do anything to keep the kettle on the boil, and if the kettle goes of the boil, one way to bring the kettle back to boiling point is to report the thread as that is sure to wind people up.

I hope that those at GR who have responsibility for the boards see through what is going on and reinstate what was an excellent and informative post by Jonesey.
