Given a choice, meat-wise, I prefer eating animals killed 'on the hoof'.
At least then, I know they haven't had to travel miles to an abbatoir squashed up, terrified. Imagine the poor beasts in this heat :-(

So, I eat a lot of venison and wild boar. Don't care what bit of the animal it is, I'll eat it :-D

Veal from older bull calve would not be so cruel. Instead of killing dairy herd bullocks at birth, as is common practise, rearing them for 6 months or so before slaughter would at least give them a useful life. It is the old methods of producing veal that puts people off. Rose veal, as it's called, is a very good meat - and no worse than rearing lambs for the market.

Eat? I can barely bring myself to say it!

Here goes........Treacle Tart

An unnatural aberration if ever there was one.
Just the thought of it round my teeth makes me want to heave.

No, Paula, I won't, it's that accusing look they give you!

I love seafood, and the only native shellfish they had in Madeira was limpets, so I tried them, many times. They can be a bit chewy, but are lovely cooked in garlic.
I won't eat oysters, though, certainly not when they're alive!

As a veggie I do my best. I would like to not consume dairy products but I am not strong enough.

I am not a fussy eater and will give most things a try, however I simply can not eat a fish with its head still on.

Graham Report 9 Jul 2013 08:50

When you smell bacon cooking, what you're actually smelling is the salt that it's coated in being cooked. ;-)

Game meats covers a lot of different things. Is it the hunting you object to?

LollyWithSprinklez

LollyWithSprinklez Report 9 Jul 2013 04:13

I wouldn't eat veal having stayed on a farm when young and listening all night to the cows in distress at their calves being taken away (don't know if that is still in practice today) although Milk cows I believe suffer the same procedure and I take milk in coffee which makes me rather hypocritical.

I wont buy lamb or any game meats

Just personal choice really being a lapsed veggie the smell of bacon sarnies being my undoing.

Isn't it funny, most of us happily eat shrimps/prawns, but if offered a woodlouse, would turn it down.
As far as I can see, they're of a similar species - but one lives in the sea.

Sushi is not necessarily raw fish. Try it and see (spoken by a veggie).

There is a good chance you are having deep fried kale when you order seaweed.

Really cheap to make at home .Fill your boots daily!

Graham Report 8 Jul 2013 22:20

I wouldn't say goat burgers were exactly common.

Quite a varied menu Sylvia. :-) I do like a bit of seaweed. I usual have some whenever I go to a chinese restuarant. ;-) I don't like the sound of sushi. I like fish, but preferable cooked. :-)
