I could at least try everything ........ and have!

Horse meat ................ had horse meat stews during and just after the war. It was not rationed, and most towns had a butcher specialising in horse meat. Have since had it ............... once was in Switzerland where we were taken to a very highly regarded restaurant out in the country that specialised in "cook your own kebabs and veggies". The most highly praised option was horsemeat, followed by venison, and then beef.

I love venison, but decided to try the horsemeat ......... it was delicious!!

Rabbit ............. also common just after the war, as not rationed. Will still opt for a rabbit casserole or braised rabbit if on the menu, if a game animla meat is not also on there.

Venison, bison, buffalo ................. love 'em all.

kangaroo meat ............... been to OZ, eaten it there, delicious.

Rattlesnake ............... had it bbq'd ........ pretty tasty, but far too many small bones for me.

I eat any kind of fish and shell fish, crabs, lobster, etc.

Used to often choose escargot with garlic butter as a starter when we ate out .............. but can no longer eat butter!

Whale meat apparently has a "fishy flavour".

I've had seal meat ................. wouldn't choose it again, bit chewy and "fishy", but would eat it in an emergency

I've eaten seaweed ................ often wrapped around sushi .............. also dulse, etc.

I love sushi, with the raw fish.

In other words ........... I will try anything, and have very eclectic tastes.

Long Pig ................. would have to be absolute emergency, but would if it was the only way to survive.

It took me all my time to try kangaroo only a mouthful but it was delicious but wouldn't eat it again. Funny today was sitting outside a butchers shop and looked at their board selling goat all sorts leg, chops, steaks, beefburgers....but thought No thank you. Couldn't eat horse or dog or cat unless really desperate :-(

On a Kenyan holiday, we were often served "steak", but the meat wasn't specified, nor, for some reason, did we ask. Everything was delicious, whether it was wildebeest, zebra, or gazelle, we'll never know - but it did us no harm! :-D

I think that is a health thing Graham. Red meet is said to be more fatty and thus more likely to cause heart problems, blocked arteries etc.

Carol P yes, agree endangered species should not be offered as food. I will eat the occasional muscle, winkle, cockle and have actually eaten a snail but not my favourite.

"How do people feel about eating Long Pig? How desperate would you be to survive if the only food was your dead comrade?"

As a veggie I would actually have no problem with that lol...or they eating me if the circumstances were reversed ;-)

I certainly wouldn't eat Puffin,Whale and dog.

Bad enough the japanese killing the whales for blubber.
I have a conscience.

I have eaten Horsemeat in Spain and the Canaries.
Not a bad taste as meat goes.

We used to eat Rabbit and horsemeat just after the war and they made good stews but Mum didn't tell us at all.

We found out by watching her skin the rabbit's.

I respect the fact that vegetarians don't eat meat at all. But why do some people eat certain meats and not others? :-S

I don't think whales are actually fish. But that brings up another interesting point. Why do some people not eat red meat? If you eat chicken or fish, why not beef or pork?
