Many apologies, Emma. Was forgetting myself - thought I was in another room. :-) ;-)

This is not a political thread so I suggest you
start one of your own...my FREE SPEECH...

JustJohn

JustJohn Report 21 Sep 2013 16:08

Angela Merkel vs David Cameron or Ed Milliband. Now there's a teaser, Roger. Would we prefer a German standard of living to a British one? Would we prefer to drive a German Mercedes, BMW or Volkswagen to a British Honda or Chevrolet?

Hmmmm! But we do have freedom of speech. Or do we? :-S

Well I exercised what our fathers fought for in the war FREEDOM OF SPEECH.

Would you lot rather have been under German rule now??

Didn't think last night's programme was the best by any means but very interesting.
I never rated M.Faithful's singing voice in the sixties,( not with Dusty around :-D)....and was she a rock-chick really?

To be a Jew living in Nazi Europe must have been a living nightmare, and to see the documents giving women who were half Jewish the name mongrel was horrendous.
Marianne learning of her mother's life when young, and of how glamorous and vibrant she was must have given her happier memories of her I guess.
Looking forward to next week's episode.

You must be like that girl I knew John,

JustJohn

JustJohn Report 19 Sep 2013 16:00

Not only women cursed by too much beauty, Emma :-( :-(

Oh, how I wish I had average looks sometimes :-( :-(

Oh, ok ;-)

Will last one be good? John Simpson?

Lot better than last series, when highlight seemed to be the one that was removed (John Bishop) :-)

'Emma'

'Emma' Report 19 Sep 2013 15:51

Roger. It was a good point, but you perhaps were a bit short and "get a life" does not go down well. Mainly because many of us do need to get a life (I certainly do more and more. :-(

Hayley is Genes royalty. We all are expected to bow low (and happily do that most times).

:-) ;-)

'Emma'

'Emma' Report 19 Sep 2013 14:39

Enjoyed the programme last night, very interesting indeed.
As for MF herself she was boring when young and she still
is now imo, her family history is certainly not.

It does not matter how anyone looks - the programme was fancinating slant on the war history which I enjoyed.

I did noy know that certain Jews missed the camps because of who they were.

So yes it only was about her mothers side, but it was a certainly an eye opener to say the least.

Oh taling about how she looked etc - it would be a poorer place if we all looked and talked the same.

So get a life - I say.

I didn't care for last nights programme either, & like Jax I thought we were never going to see anything about her Ancestors, too much time was spent at the start of the programme talking about her & what she got up to in her early years!

JOAN.

I do not wear glasses as a regular thing, but have a pair. I can see the TV clearer with them on but cannot see the computer screen and as I do these things at the same time it gets awkward.

So they sit on the top my head :-D

I didn't really enjoy last nights program, although some of it was interesting...It seemed to be more about her than her ancestors

JustJohn

JustJohn Report 19 Sep 2013 12:06

It may be conceit why women (and men) put on and take off glasses when speaking to someone. It might be simple respect.

Glasses can be a barrier when we are speaking to somebody. Non verbals are very important.

Marianne did look like a studious school teacher with her glasses on. Her whole face seemed to change when she took them off.

And, at end of programme, she looked even younger and fresher again. Perhaps the weight of wondering why she had behaved like she had during her life had been lifted somewhat.
