Not that close, I am right down on the coast.

It's not too far from Cocking and Diddling.

Sharron you have just thrown me mentioning Robins Bottom.
Some fifteen years ago or so we went looking for it and it is now signposted Robins! It has lost its Bottom ;-)

Is it near you?

The first time I was in Newcastle and wanted the library, off I set with a trusty map from my hotel and get lost, I asked a lady to direct me to said library she tried but said she was useless at giving directions so took me there instead, on foot and in the opposite direction to where she was going in the first place. That's what I call helpful bless her.
PS it took 20 minutes of her time to do that.

liking the sound of Titty Hill - is it a big hill or a little hill :-D

I know the local area extremely well and used to work with a right knowall who thought he could do my job more efficiently than I could, so I let him have a go.

He did need to ask me where a few deliveries were and I was happy to tell him, only I know the names of a lot of little local bits. If you are going over Diddy Bones Knapp you need to turn left at the bottom, don't go round by Titty Hill, it's just by Snoots Corner, go up to Pilleygreen and turn left, run on through Selhurst and turn at the Benges but don't overshoot Coldharbour Farm or you will end up at the Coombe and you won't want to waste your time doing that. Now, off you go Big Head!

words I used often "I have only to go somewhere once and I can always find my way again" came back to haunt me big time one Christmas - along with a friend had gone to see my other friend's husband doing a show in a club on the outskirts of Newport, Gwent. Pig of a place to find, but got there eventually. On leaving my friend's husband said "follow us if you like" No probs I said :-(
An hour later we were totally lost having taken a wrong turning immediately on leaving the club - I felt confident we'd eventually come to something I would recognise - next thing is a sign "To the sea wall" !!! The sea wall!!! "What sea" I'm wondering, please God it's not the Atlantic - eventually we did come to something I recognised - it started to snow and my friend mentioned that she was due in work at 9:00 on Monday morning - this was Friday night!!!! We made it home ventually - I was in the AA at the time but unable o ask for help as I had no flippin' idea where I was

I think I'm reasonable at finding my way and in giving instructions, but am aware that I am likely to say .....eg. turn right at the Co-op or bear left at the Y junction just past the school,........ whereas OH will only refer to 1st right, 3rd left etc. with no mention of what you might see on the way.

I like to be told about shops etc because it helps to reassure that I'm on the correct route.

Having been a van driver for far too long I have a kind of instinct for where places are.

We had to find a social club one evening and it was in one of those estates that is part houses and part industrial and there was also another road in that went only to the industrial part.

Having taken us up the wrong road initially, I was carefully instructing OH along the roads of the housing estate when he decided I was utterly wrong again and turned on the sat-nav app on his phone.

How delighted was I when the voice said "Proceed for fifty meres and venue is on your left."

I was once told to turn left where the pub used to be. I know that pub closed before the war!

I was politely but firmly asked not to continue with geography for my exams.

They foolishly made me do history instead when I can never remember names or dates :-S

I love history now :-)

Edit.....LOL at Ann. I was walked to and from junior school and escorted to and from senior school by my sister and brother.

I still get lost in shops now *sighs*

Well I don't know that I'm good at it Elizabeth, but people do seem to approach me for directions wherever i am, however far from home lol.

Years ago in LA with my mum ( 'where is the immigration office?') and inAustria where a couple tried out their german phrase book by asking me "how far it was to..." and then laughed when they realised I was also English, and a few years back in London when a young chap was looking to find a particular location near Trafalgar Square and I walked with him consulting my pocket A to Z until we found it :-)

I'm not good on which roads lead where though because I don't drive :-)

I do the arm waving, turning round in circles and jabbering directions that you see on comedy shows.

Once, as soon as the lady had driven off I realised I had sent her the wrong way and ran home as fast as I could before she came back again :-D

Can you describe and provide travel directions, including the bus numbers
and railways and landmarks, etc to people who are lost?
