Sharron Report 17 Aug 2013 13:47

I was horrified to read in the local paper yesterday that the husband of one of our carers is to stand trial for paedophilia, level 5 images and conspiring to incite a child to take part in them.

Have never had any sort of problem with her and I can't imagine she was involved but she must be going through Hell at the moment although she is still working.

Knowing she may come to me and not wanting an elephant in the room with her or the other girls I did the only thing I could think of. I offered her my friendship and support on Facebook.

Very difficult. She must be churning inside.
I think you did the right thing.

wisechild Report 17 Aug 2013 13:56

Be very careful Sharron.
probably this person was unaware of what her husband was doing, but don´t take it as read just because you know her.
30 odd years ago when my daughters were 3 &5 we discovered that a male neighbour had been abusing them and several other small children in the street. Obviously we were all distraught, more so because his wife was a cleaner in the office where my husband worked. We were sure she couldn´t have known what was going on.
How wrong can you be?
When the case came to court, it turned out that he had also been abusing his granddaughter, with his wife´s full knowledge.
I hope tis doesn´t apply in your carer.s case, but please be aware.

I will not be further involved but felt that it, at least, showed her I was aware of the situation and was not judging her.

AnninGlos Report 17 Aug 2013 14:30

I think you did right to acknowledge that you know Sharron but it would be as well to be wary also. Nasty situation and for those wived not involved it must come as a terrible shock.

I would have done the same thing Sharron, poor lady :-(

What a difficult situation for you and for her and for all the people she works for. I hope it turns out that she was totally unaware of the evil things her husband was doing.

I think you did the right thing too,

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 18 Aug 2013 09:24

Poor woman - she's a victim almost as much as the children in the photographs.

If, with the stress on If, she was arrested the agency would probably suspender her. Even then Arrest is not the same as being Charged.

Assuming she is still visiting, then you've already extended the hand of friendship and support. A quick hug if you are touchy-feely but otherwise take your lead from her.

My heart always goes out to those who are innocent family members of an accused and guilty person. Their lives are shattered too, as they come to terms with the shock and horror of someone they loved and held dear, being accused and found guilty of dreadful things. They will need much love and support in trying to build their lives up again.

A difficult situation for you Sharron but some wise words of advice have been given by others. <3
