Although it is impossible to sort out connexion problems without knowing the following:

operating system ; eg WinXP SP3 , Win7, Apple, Linux Mint and so on
browser ; eg Win8 Win9 Firefox23, PaleMoon, Safari, Opera, Chrome
connection type ; eg ADSL fast, ADSL budget, fobre, USB key, tether ...
; wire thernet / wifi
nominal speed ; eg 2 Mb 10 Mb 20 Mb 50 Mb 100 Mb

such info is rarely given.

GRu are using a Microsoft IIS7 server blade. This is quite unusual for a public web site ( most use Apache ).

One reason for that is the difficulty of tuning IIS7/SQL database for slow client connections. Thanks to various security holes in IIS/SQL allowing too long for a connexion could end up with a hacked server.

At a guess most of the people having a lot of hassle with their connection have at least one of these features:

(a) running IE8 or earlier (b) nominal connexion speed below 10 Mb eg USB key (c) are located a long way from the UK eg Australia, Canada. There are NO GRu servers or mirrors outside of the UK.

If using wifi and the connexion will not play online HD video or iPlayer smoothly then again problems with GRu are likely.

The load on the GRu server is nowhere near enough to create any problems.

Joins Errol's queue as there are still problems this morning, methinks there is, for a better phrase, a conflict of interest here, the conflict is between the service Genes Reunited are trying to provide, unfortunately that is not fully compatible with the platforms that Brightsolid's servers are designed to operate on :-(

I'll get in line too,Errol. It bemuses me when GR proudly announce that they are adding more boards for the members to post on,potentially creating more problems and frustrations for the people posting. I don't honestly know why they changed the family tree setup-I never had a problem before with changing details on my tree, now I am totally unable to amend details of the people on my tree, lose all the new details that I have added, and end up totally fed-up!! After several times of doing this,I don't bother adding any more details to my tree.It is not worth the hassle.I have complained several times to GR and have got the standard reply, which I don't believe-"we're looking into it!"
If they were, and they had some competent IT people,it would be sorted by now.But...still the same old problems keep dragging on....

Margot.

I don't normaly have many error messages on GR but the speed the pages load at the moment takes me back to the days of dial up, On average its taking between 30 seconds and 2 minutes to go from one page to another or to post, Sometimes I have to close my browser and start again
