Grey and blue were the main colours for us.
Grey garberdine raincoat nigh on flapped around one's ankles in the 1st year, as it was bought to grow in to, I had the same coat for all the years I was there.

Lower school wore grey 6 gore flannel-like skirts, but 6th formers had box pleats. Our blouses were bold blue and white stripe that dazzled Mum's eyes when they needed ironing. Jumpers were plain grey, often hand-knitted to help save on the expense of buying one from the pricey outfitters. No tie.
Our hats were a sort of beret, but had a band and raised sides with the circle of material forming the crown. They were French navy, with a school badge sewn on. It was impressed on us that we should wear them with the band not tucked in and the extra material of the hat should be pulled down towards the back, so that the badge was in full view ...'Like halos, girls...Like halos'
If we were caught going to or from school without our hat, there was one warning, then if caught again we had to wear it all day in school so that everyone could see how we had flouted school rules.
Knickers were grey interlock and worn with just a pale blue polo shirt for gym, but outdoors we wore grey 'divided skirts' which I guess equates to Maggie's culottes. The wind used to whip across from the sea, but we were seldom allowed to wear jumpers.

Summer dresses were grey checked with pale blue, pink, yellow or pale green. We could choose.
We had dark blue science overalls, but had to make our own art overall and cookery apron and cap ( with forename emblazoned across both in best chain stitch) once we had finished making our shoe bag ( also embroidered ) in needlework lessons.
Shoes had to be changed on entering and leaving the school building, but once in a while, if the weather was good in the summer, we were allowed to wear our outdoor sandals indoors.

Adding to my previous post, we didn't have ANY boys.......considered distracting! No pocket in our knickers either. I'd forgotten all about the science coat and hockey boots were a nightmare to clean!! We had culotte style shorts too worn with a square neck 'Aerotex' blouse. Our hats were sailor style and had a bow that the school badge was above. The hat had to be worn with the bow and badge over the right ear, but everyone wore it differently! :-S For gym we had bare feet and black satin knickers with your team stripe colour tape sewn down each side. No stockings were allowed until the 6th form and then had to be worn with your laceups. No nail varnish either. Everyone had to go outside at break and lunchtime and stay in the school grounds unless you went home for lunch.

No choices at lunch either! No chips, it was mash or lumpy mash and the cabbage was always soggy. In fact the dining room seemed to always smell of cabbage. Unlike my friends I quite liked the liver and onions so always got a second helping. There seemed to be a lot of steamed sponges we called stodge that had a way of clinging to the roof of your mouth and always served with lumpy custard with a skin on top. I remember liking the chocolate tart we had but hated tapioca!
