And a shame when childish threads turn very serious :-(

A shame when some 'adult' threads turn childish.

Jokes almost always make me laugh. There are some excellent joke tellers on Genes. Mr Magoo, Ann in Cardiff have made me fall off my chair once or twice dabbing my eyes. And I find Allan in Australia to be so very funny - just my sense of humour.

I feel that reports are usually upheld. I have been reported a few times for being hateful. And Genes have agreed. I know I was definitely not being hateful. I may have been teasing, trying to prick a pompous balloon. But never hateful.

It is just that there are some very delicate flowers reporting posts. Why they read threads that they know will offend them, I have no idea. I look at jokes with swear words and bodily functions and I know they may offend me and certainly won't make me laugh. So I report myself, stop reading, and find something else to do in my fascinating and rivetting life.

Better close the internet then.
I find some things the Daily Mail says 'upsetting', likewise, this government 'upsets' me.
Can I 'RR' them?
It's not as if anyone's advocating the killing of innocent animals or people with a certain hair colour/view on life/ style of shoe.
I believe we are adults - this isn't the CBBC channel.
Perhaps GR should grow up and stop behaving like petty minded dictators.

There are threads that could "upset" me ~ if I chose to read them.

I don't read them!!

What would happen if we all got "upset" at every little thing?

'anything that "upsets" people is banned under the T&C'

Absolute balderdash! I deleted two threads because of a menace causing upset after I complained to GR and they (an individual) had the temerity to say it was 'healthy adult humour'. It seems some members are allowed to be upset but not others. The menace is still amongst us.

Well they have said that "vulgarity" and anything that "upsets" people is banned under the T&C and I guess that's that. When I put up some Lenny Bruce jokes they certainly didn't last long.

So there you go, rugby jokes from the team bus going back to people's teenage years, politically incorrect jokes, bawdy seaside stories, even popular tv humour allowed before 9pm all suffers the same fate - RR'd and the poster faces suspension.

I think the "party line" can be found here:
http://www.thepeoplesfriend.co.uk/

No wonder the number of people posting anything interesting or funny on these boards goes down and down and down - a dozen or so from an alleged membership of millions. Recent notable missing in action include ErrolSheep while others hardly bother eg JohnCocoa.

Several people said that if the RR'd nonsense was not sorted it would kill the boards. Looks like they were right - postings right across subjects are minimal.
Remember 5 years ago?

fwiw everyone posting may not be real anyway but just an image of Shrodinger's cat 'cos assuming that there are millions of members then statistically the true number of active posters is between very few and nobody at all.

Many years ago, my ex and his brother (that'll be my ex brother in law who lives in Australia, and was over for a holiday), tried to photograph our (that's ex & I's) children leaving school one evening- what a fuss - even though I worked at said school.
In the end I took the pictures.

Allan Report 14 Sep 2013 01:14

lol Maggie :-D :-D

During the better weather I like to go walking and do some photography at the same time. One of my favourite walks is through a large park area with quite a big playground for the children.

I always ensure the my camera is kept in its case until I am well away from the area :-)

Surely you mean mothers -in-law :-) (that's a sickly sweet emoticon)

Allan

Allan Report 14 Sep 2013 01:03

Maggie, I totally agree.

I use another, specialized, family history site that does have moderators. If you post the wrong thing or on the wrong thread, they will tell and either move the post or delete it.

I most strongly object to faceless people imposing their morals and values on me. I know right from wrong and at age 65 I have so far avoided any contact from the police, neighbours mothers etc about any adverse behaviour :-| :-|

Scozz- objected to by how many different people? GR should know.
Accepted by probably quite a few more people - all adults, all capable of either ignoring what they don't like and just looking at what they do like.
It's not as if anything obscene or encouraging violence towards another human or small baby animal was written.
Someone desperately needs a humour / reality injection.
I am an adult, with different views to others, and I will (occasionally) defend those with a different view to voice their views, (or ignore them) But denying anyone their right to a view or a joke amongst adults (by RRing a thread) smacks of dictatorship. So who is the dictator?
Can GR give me/Scozz an answer?

There's a new thread on the Hobbies & Crafts board about baking bread, I thought you may be interested.

At a well known University, a Professor of Literature set the following assignment: write a story containing all the usual ingredients of mystery, religion and sex, but using as few words as possible.

He waded through his students' assignments, many of which were of least two or three pages long.

He finally awarded top marks to the student who wrote the following LINE

"My God!" she cried, "I'm pregnant! Who did it?"
