I used to watch these American programs 'Man vs Food' and the like, where they travel around American diners.

I am sure brisket was one of the joints they used for making sandwiches...whether it is different to our brisket I don't know

Ah yes Rollo. I see where you got mixed up, this is not the Central Meat Market that is under discussion, this is the old poultry market which is yet to be refurbished.

By the way I have already signed a petition to save these buildings which I also posted on the 'Londoners' thread on here.

Oi I am very pleased to here that then. Even better the pub I used once to drink in at odd times will go on serving pints. It was named "the Hope" but by now I suppose it has been renamed to the War Horse or some such.

Rollo, FIL was also from a long line of farmers and butchers. In his opinion, most present day butchers weren't worthy of the name - they were fleshers, ie they prepared ready killed carcases, whereas he had killed and prepared his own beasts.

OH remembers helping out in the shop when he was a boy - 4 o'clock on a Saturday morning making sausages in the freezing cold.

We are lucky in our quite small village to have a butcher who still makes his own sausages but OH doesn't offer to help!

I can just hear my mums voice now when she sent me to the butchers for a nice piece of brisket and a pound of skirt. This was when I was a child and every penny counted.
