Hi ya, Shy!

Last year, I bent the pin in a U shape (as A.C said), and I kept it until after Remembrance Day

The problem this year has been ............... I haven't worn the same jacket 2 days running since I bought the poppy last Thursday! We've had such changeable weather here ................... it's even been warm enough on a couple of days to just wear a down vest!

Good to hear that things are going better for you and your dad.

I always donate online every year, but do not wear a poppy. My donation is far more than £1.00 and is not missed by me or my bank account.

It is by choice and in the past did not want to ruin my clothes with pins etc.

Why do people get so upset if someone is not wearing one. It is always assumed that if you are not wearing one you have not donated.

We do not comment on all the other charities that you can donate to and receive a sticker/badge/wristlet to wear.

I will not be dictated to by anyone about my wearing of a poppy.

I bought an everlasting one - a beautiful brooch made by the Buckley jewellery company - mine came from QVC and cost about £20, a large portion of which went to the British Legion - QVC have several of these poppies at differing prices - also they are sold in M & S for £15 - Buckley have donated thousands to the British Legion this way - well worth thinking about

Hello Shy, good to see you, yes it can be embarrassing when they get lost. But I don't re-buy. I know I have bought one, bit more difficult if you go to the service though where you are known, in which case Liz's idea is a good one.

I think the idea is to donate, not to buy. Just because you are not advertising the fact doesn't mean you haven't donated generously.

The whereabouts of your poppy is nobody's business but yours.

I buy the little enamelled metal one's - the falling apart is then not a problem :-)

"'Why I wear my poppy?' i was asked today,
I had a think then began to say,
For all the men who sacrificed their lives,
For the orphaned children and widowed wives,
The eleventh month, eleventh day, eleventh hour,
Was this bloody conflict’s finest hour,
All the pain and destruction came to an end,
So this is the message i would like to send,
Please everyone wear your poppy with pride
Let’s remember the history we cannot hide."

I haven't been anywhere to get one yet but will do so tomorrow. It is annoying when they fall off, why not buy one and keep it in your pocket or bag and when people ask where your's is say Oh it's here I forgot to put it on, and produce it from your pocket /bag.

Nice to see you posting again Shy and glad your Dad is on the mend.

Yeah I bought one of those last year and had it about two days, the keeper must've come off and it kinda dissappeared

Hello Shy, long time no see :-)

I had the same problem but now I buy a metal badge poppy each year. It is dated so no cheating by using the same one each time.

That is very good news. <3. Ours are usually quite tough but this years offering are terrible

RockyMountainShy

RockyMountainShy Report 4 Nov 2013 23:21

Ours are made of fuzzy plastic type stuff. so no danger of falling apart. I'll send you one. You can save it and use it next year.

And yes, I am well, and my Dad is getting better all the time.

Hi stranger, hope you are well. I have just been grumbling about poppies this evening. I have found this year that you only need to brush against them and they fall to pieces. :-|

Will someone explain to me why I keep buying a poppy? Yes, I know the real reason, but when it keeps falling off, is there really a reason. When I go to the Nov 11 thingy in town, friends ask "where's your poppy?" I could say 1. Oh I lost it 2. I left it at home or 3. I did buy 3 and if you find any of them, please let me know.
I bought one today and I had it for ohhhhhhhhhhhh about an hour. So I ask again Will someone explain to me why I keep buying a poppy? I know the legion needs the money, but so do I. :-(
