I really must apologise for in incorrect spelling of Philomena's name. (Phillumenists, sometimes my computer has a mind of its own)

I felt it must be but wanted to confirm. What a very talented actress Dame Judi is.

Her accent was really good, Ann. It must have been authentic because it didn't bother me and I usually cringe when someone puts on a bad Irish accent! :-D <3

Pauline that must have been a hard film for you to watch.

Sue, I intend to download the original to my kindle.

BC You did say you would let us know if Dame Judi's Irish accent was authentic.???

Saw Philomena film last week-it was heartbreaking-I too was born in 1952 the same year as Philomena:s son-my mother was English(Gloucestershire)and my father was Irish/American called John Rynne(not sure of spelling)he had 2 sisters who were"nurses in Manchester"-that would have been around 1951-they must have been Irish/Catholics - perhaps this rings a bell with someone? My mother died many years ago and I long to know who my father was-perhaps this film will make people open up more about their family secrets and end years of heartache for people .

AnninGlos.

The story was so unforgetable that it has stuck in my mind all this time.

This is the original book I bought.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lost-Child-Philomena-Lee-Fifty-Year/dp/B00E31RHG2/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1383867962&sr=1-2&keywords=philomena+lee

And you are right aboutt the book(Tie in with the film.) has been published.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Philomena-true-story-mother-tie-/dp/1447245229/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1383867962&sr=1-1&keywords=philomena+lee

I still prefer the original and everyone to their own tastes.<3

Bit difficult that then. Mind you if I had read it that long ago I would probably have forgotten it lol!

But it does often happen when books are adapted for films.

I assume that Philomena will have agreed to the adaptation.

AnninGlos.

But I read the book long before the film was even thought of..

Sue, one reason I prefer to read a book after seeing the film.

I also saw it this afternoon and enjoyed it immensely., Not overly sentimental.(I wiped a few tears away of course!) and beautifully acted. Sisters of No Mercy...how true!

Been this afternoon to see the film and well personally I think Steve Coogan
shouldn't have had anything to do with the script.

As far as I am concerned he spoilt a damn good film.

If they had gone by the original Book (2009) and put more of Philomena's life in the Magdaline Laundry and Anthony/Micheal's life in USA with his adoptive parents the film would have been longer than 90 minutes.

It was a shame because the book is a very good read.

I thought it was the best film I've seen for a long while.

Even though I did cry all the way through it.

Only 10 other people in the cinema, so it was lovely and quiet. Plus very comfortable - a Vue cinema.

I actually didn't know the full story before I went so I am pleased about that. all I had seen were the ads in a couple of papers and on the sides of our buses, no spoilers at all.

Its good that British film makers have at last recognised the purchasing power of the older generation. We don't all want bedroom romps disguised as Romance, or Shoot'em Up films!

Sorry to spoil it Liz but It has been publicised on TV and radio. Phillumenists Lee was on radio four last week and told the full story.

AnninGlos Report 6 Nov 2013 09:11

I am sure it will be on TV. But our cinema seats are really comfortable with loads of leg room. (Cine World) :-)

There seem to be two books the original one and the one that supports the film.
