A friend made a fruit cake for us,but the wedding was really small.

Although I not bothered about cakes I do enjoy watching the Amazing Wedding Cake programme on the Food Channel. More art than baking, but I wouldn't pay the amount they must charge!!

we had a square two tier one with a sugar church steeple on the top.

we did keep the top tier for our daughters christening which was 16 months later . some brown seeped through but the cake was still delicious .

I still have the Church Steeple ,its falling apart a little but it is 56 years old !!

my mum made mine - she made everything else too - my dress and the bridesmaids, page boy and flower girl outfits

It was a single tier which we had professionally iced - glad we didn't have a two tier to keep one for a christening as it took me eight years to actually come up with a baby :-D

They can't keep a 'top tier' to celebrate the birth of their first born! :-D

Having recently visited a wedding fayre, there are some quite spectacular cakes being made now.

The groom-to-be wants a Cheese Cake - rounds of cheese stacked on top of each other - but has been firmly put in his place ;-)

Ours in the mid 70s was a traditonal 2 tier round fruit cake made and decorated with paste roses by mother in law who had been taking sugar craft classes. It was by far the best tasting icing we've had since then.

What was yours like?

We didn't have one.

I know many couples don't want the "traditional" cake, but this one is WAY over the top ~

What do you think of it?
