We were trained to do that. I don't think anybody bothers to do it any more.

Always, when I had a proper job, I would bite my tongue when I was at work but off work was quite a different matter.

We do it at work - nice as pie on the phone - put it down and the 'language' comes out :-D
Unfortunately for me, my line manager can't actually see me from behind a column - she just hears me effing and blinding - and has the nerve to accuse me of swearing!!!!
I'd just like her to take some of the calls - and no, we're not a call centre - but as every Tom Dick & Harry in higher management has decided that our 'general' number is handy, they've put it as 'their' number.
We have no idea what they do, but are expected to answer their calls in between attempting to do our 'proper' work!!
