barbra ..............

parents with children might not be as lazy as you think .......... one reason why stores and malls are providing parent with child spaces is because they often need more space to get the child out of the car

The others ......... lazy, too busy, and too much "me, me" generation to park further away!

The Family Doctor (or specialist) has to fill out the medical part of the form I have to fill in ............... he/she has to write in the reason in quite some detail, whether it is permanent or temporary, and sign

But there are always the ignorant louts who park in disabled spaces when they don't need to

There is a perfectly good NCP not far from Southampton Hospital.
Parking close to the hospital though is next to non existent not helped by the building works.

The Blue Badge scheme has far too many people enrolled who don't really need it and even more who use a family member's badge. The result is that the scheme has fallen into disrespect which is why so many people park in the spaces who shouldn't.

Both my mother and OH are disabled with their own blue badge. The current mess can ruin anybody's day but I don't think Asda have the right approach. There are more than enough people with the mentality of a ww2 air raid warden without adding to them.

Signed and glad to. Re hospital/blue card parking - was taken to Southampton Hospital by ambulance some three months ago. I heard through media the horrors of parking there. I saw in ambulance parking a mini had squeezed in the space between two ambulances.
Whilst we were waiting for an ambulance to back out - two cars were parked at side of road and the two drivers were having one stinking row! Our driver said anyone and everyone parks where they can - even in disabled and ambulance bays.

Apparently Portsmouth Hospital can be even worse with ambulances queueing up to enter.

I always use my badge even on days when I
have less pain, I need the space allowed me when
getting in and out of our car without twisting myself
and trying to squeeze into a small space I also need
my OH to help me get on my feet and to help me sit
down on the passenger side, I haven't driven for years
and feel grateful for my blue badge.

I fill in the form with the reasons I need the permit, including listing the aids I already use - I have to give my doctor's name and address presumably so that they can check if necessary. If there weren't any disabled parking I should have to ask for escorted help almost always.

I had a "disabled" sticker for our car for three months, when I was on crutches.

I think we used it once......... because all the disabled spots were usually taken by ignorant, selfish people! DH dropped me off at the door, found a park, and returned for me later. This even happened at the medical centre!

My Mum had a disabled permit, but she didn't drive, she would put it on the window of the car of the person who was taking her places..... and when Mum died, my rotten selfish brother took it! I was SO tempted to report him.

My hubby has a blue badge due to a stroke. More often than not we can't find a space in the disabled spaces as they are full. Maybe next time I will have a look to see if the cars are showing their blue badges.
Just signed.

Sylvia, sometimes, when I'm in the car with my daughter, I point out we're 'parent and child', so logistically she can park in her normal place - the child seats in the back may be empty, but I'm her mum and she's my child,

Some mother * brought her up with a sense of morals - and she won't! park in the 'parent and child' area if she hasn't got her children! :-| :-D

SylviaInCanada Report 11 Jun 2016 23:58

I've been thinking of applying for our equivalent of your blue badge .......... but I have to make an appointment with the GP so he can fill out the medical reason form that I can download from the internet.

I asked about it about a year ago, and was told they fill out the form "with pleasure" but to make an appointment for that alone (not piggyback on back of a medical appointment) because it takes quite a long time to fill out the form.

Fortunately, they don't apparently charge for it!

Like LaGooner, I have my good days and bad days, and fortunately on most of the bad days OH can find parking close enough to the entrance that it is not too difficult. But it can be a problem if we take the car downtown, or to somewhere like IKEA.

Some big stores here also have Parent and Child parking spots ...... IKEA is one of them. They're a little bit further away from the entrance, but are still close, and are wider than the average parking space.

I'm not sure if you have to get a sticker to use those or not .......... a car seat in the car does make it obvious that you are a parent, but not always that the child is with you :-D

That's the problem, Bob, You look too bl**dy healthy.

Can I claim a blue badge for 50% kidney function, as I found out 6 years ago, I only had one kidney.

No, I can't, as Kevin the kidney is doing the work of 2 with no problem, and the nephrologist said the red wine was good for Kevin (but did point out she didn't give a sh*t for Lionel the Liver, as she was a kidney specialist)

Moral problem - do I give Kev what he wants and ignore Lionel?
Answer - YES!! :-D :-D :-D

I suppose that 21% kidney function, Atrial fibrillation, COPD, and high blood pressure don't really look unhealthy............

I guess that the pills MUST be working, as I'm often told how well I look

Signed!!

If you have a legitimate blue badge - use it!
My late BiL had mesothelioma. He was dying - but looked fairly healthy.
A couple of times my sister (who drove as BiL was dying and didn't want to drive) was confronted for parking in a disabled bay (with blue badge on show), as BiL looked too healthy!

No-one I know who isn't disabled, would park in a disabled bay.

LaGooner

LaGooner Report 11 Jun 2016 19:16

I have good days and bad days with my disability. So on a good day I don't use the bays but on bad days I do.(the bads outnumber the goods).

I'd be too embarrassed to park in a BB space. Some people have no shame, it seems.
