New Year's Honours

How come people get Knighthoods for doing something they love.

Many people give years of service to their jobs, i.e Postmen, Firefighters etc. and get nothing. Things which are all very hard work but never recognized.

Maybe it's just me having a whinge and you don't agree but that's the way I see it.

People have to write in to nominate the people who are thought worthy of an honour. If you have someone you think deserves an honour let the powers that be know. This link shows what happens and how you nominate.

Glad we're not the only ones to think the same.

The Sports Olympians are the ones who caught our eye. If it were in 20 years time when it could be shown they've been promoting their discipline, encouraging youngsters etc etc, then a KBE might be fair enough.
What would have been wrong with an OBE or MBE or does their KBE make the full set?

I'm with you AnnCardiff.

The system has been going for around 100 years and it's run its course.

I think it's one big joke.

The trouble is that the media are only interested in reporting the so called 'celebrities'.

If you dig a bit deeper you find that well the majority do in fact go to ordinary folk. Almost three-quarters of the New Year honours are for local community, charity or voluntary work by the “ordinary people doing extraordinary things” highlighted in the Queen’s Christmas broadcast.

Agree with Det on the sports lot. It is ridiculous that you get one just for winning a medal. There needs to be a lifetime of service first.
