Have you ever tried to determine how/where cold caller get their personal info?

I received a cold call yesterday which made me really angry.
So much so, that I tried to keep the caller on the line to find out how her company managed to obtain info that contained our home telephone number.

This call came from the NE of England and was about Mains Gas!
Our records show that "your address" is not yet linked to the main gas supply?

Of course we have mains gas so, I asked for the address that she had on her files.
I nearly fell over when she openly provided me with an address in Glasgow City Centre!

The address that she quoted was the office premises of OH's previous employer
(The company merged about 3yrs ago and the entire firm moved to new premises)

In fact, the entire street is comprised of business premises and office blocks.
She would be hard pressed to find a single residential property, let alone locate actual owners of any building in this area.

I asked the girl on the phone to look at the national dialling code that she called me on.
I then pointed out that this number was clearly not within Glasgow City Centre.

She said she would take our details off the list but, I am still no wiser as to how her info connected OH's name and personal home number to his former employment
address?
I also advised her to check Google Maps Street View before calling anyone else!

She hung up!
(Oh is very careful with personal info, and our home number does not appear on any business card, Linkedin or anything else that we can think of)
