pneumatic Drills too dig up the spuds etc….and over a million sheep perished..it must have been devastating for the farmers

I lived in a house very similar to the one I live in now. There was a manhole in the middle of the path in front of the steps up to the front door. Our coal was shot into the manhole down to the cellar.

My parents had a metal container with a lid with water glass in it. Used to preserve eggs.
It stood outside near the coal bunker :-0 :-0 :-D :-D

I detested Friday afternoon, as we were herded in a coach along to the playing fields to endure an afternoon of torture. :-D :-D

We went to school in the winter of 1963 the whole time. We couldn’t play netball but went for walks instead :-0 :-0 :-D :-D

There were so many 'slides' of ice in our playground, we could hardly get from one side to the other.

Strangely enough our High Street was salted this morning to the extent it looked like the seaside the salt was so thick. Daft cos the footfall melted it all.

Nothing on the side roads though.

We had to watch and count the sacks Belle in case the coalman didn’t deliver the correct no.
Must have been 10 sacks at a time. ;-) ;-)

Ours was delivered on a flat bed lorry, by Tom. His face was always black, heaven knows what his lungs were like. :-0
