Hello. I haven't been in here before. I usually frequent the Aussies Only etc site but thought I would look around and see if anything else is available.

What attracted me was that there are posts in here that contain more than half a dozen words - my posts tend to be longer ones, too.

Kathleen, my thoughts are with you and my prayers are with your daughter. It's a very trying time. I've been there and I do hope that your outcome is a good one.

A little about me. I'm from Australia with forebears from Scotland and England. I've gone off the genealogy a bit at the moment as I've managed to find out all that I wanted to know when I first began the search. There's certainly some very interesting history there and some of it quite unexpected.

I do hope that I will be welcome into your site and look forward to looking you up again tomorrow.

Right Fred ,you have put an idea in my head that only a cup of tea and a cheeses toastie in Bury will quench if you know what I mean.!!!
I am going up on the tram .as it is free and as I do not need anything big should be able to manage my stick and a shopping bag.
John is also suffering with a bout of Tendonitis again so is on crutches !!
its very painfull for him,he can drive but not walk very far, without pain,we are hoping its not going to last long as we are of toCornwall nbext Friday for the wedding of my nephew. We will look a right pair if he is on crutches and I am using my stick!!!
Hope the new phone works Fred .
Will let you know about the cuppa and toastie.

You leave our John alone Brenda ,it's a male thing ,having a minor strop,or spitting the dummy out is about all that keeps us males sane when trying to tackle jobs like this he he ,been there ,done it ,and have the tee shirt. ;-)'
Hope he gets it sorted so that you can move forward with the selling one oof the cars ,or whatever.
The big digger is out front now ,chewing up the flat railings prior to putting the sub and top soil back ,so we are nearly there ,yippee.
We have to go to the market today too ,our digital phone went phut last night ,followed by a little cloud of blue smoke,so we are off after a new one ,one of those cordless ones with the answering machines built in,which means we can go to bed taking the handset with us ,or ditto into the garden during the day, lots easier than having seperate phones all over the house..we do have a phone in the kitchen plugged straight into the socket .and another in the spare bedroom but the handset means we have the extra scope in case i do daft things like chop me toes off in the garden wiv' the spade or i get stung in the bum by an angry wasp he he ,one never knows :-S.
Wahey ,take yer tank top on Saturday Brenda ,looks like a spring weekend ,so i can see you sat in the cafe we used last time in looooverly sunshine ,just the ticket, cup of tea one one side ,and a cheese toastie on the other, how good will that be after a miserable wet winter?
Fred, off to take the wife her cuppa before she gets her self moving he he :-D

evening all, weather has not been to bad again today ,shame I did not have any washing to do as it would have dried really well.
John has looked at the seat belt Fred ,and its inside the clip part where something has come apart or loosened if you know what I mean ,its a sealed unit so you cannot undo do it to get at it.So he has booked it in for them to do.,he is not a happy bunny but doesn't want to be messing about at things he is not comfortable with.
I tend to leave him to it when he is like that ,!!!
Was thinking of going up Bury this weekend, either tomorrow or Sat if weather is ok,need a few wedding and wedding anniversary cards for family wedding next week and my brothers ruby wedding the week after ,and my sisters wedding anniversary the week after that,March is a busy wedding month for us.!! Itwas my other sisters last week.
ALso need something for Johns mother for Mothers day.
Hope you and Liz are ok now Fred,,John and David let me know when I give them too much or rather too many meals cooked in the same way ,braised casseroled or cooked in a sauce which i do a lot.!!
Hope everyone else is ok
Take care Brenda

We have been thinking of going down to one car this year so it needs to be done to get the MOT so we can sell both cars and get a newer one between us.!! John is not a happy bunny ,and to top it all his tendonitis has flared up again !!!

Afternoon all ,wow ,we had one hell of a frost last night ,but by the time we had been dowwn town to the Bank [snap] and come back out onto John Dobson Street , it was sunny ,and nice and mild so ,with any luck the spring is about here.
The flats are down now ,so an end to the noise of jack hammers ,lol ,we may even have a lay in bed comr tomorrow morning to soak up the deafening silence he he :-D.
The porch is finished as well and all we await for now is the snagging team to arrive to finish off.
Hope John's car gets a clean bill of health Brenda ,that will be a load off your minds for another 12 months.
catch you all later Fred. :-D

Good morning all you weekend lovers ,lol, but wow ,what a change on the weather front after the last two weeks of mild weather, still we takes what comes ,like it or lump it .
I am glad to hear that your daughter is home Katherine ,it is so much easier to recover from an op' of any sort ,in your own home ,and remember my old mum recovering pretty quickly from the same op' ,being sent home rather than staying in hospital ,the nurse coming in daily to change dressings ,and see to the pain relief.
You need to take note of what your doc' says too ,having you ill with raised blood pressure will not help you ,or your daughter in any way ,take it easy time is important to you both.
I managed to catch Dorothy on line yesterday ,and noted that she is still as busy as ever ,lol, another lady who needs more time to unwind ,just like Brenda :-| .
The new puter is doing very well Brenda ,but i will know more when the grandson arrives later with the disc for his gaming ,we will then see just how much faster the graphics are as to the speed of his game ,then i will know for sure ,but so far ,for what i paid for it ,it looks to be well worth it's money, you could do a lot worse when the time comes ,and save yourself a lot of dosh .
Well ,my tatties are out ,and all i have to say is ,i won't be buying any for at least 4 weeks.
My new boxes are in place ,going right to the patio edge ,room for all my onions ,and leeks ,leaving the little garden space by the Asparagus free for the beetroot and a couple of good rows of spring onion ,and lettuce.
My missus gave me a hand bless her ,for a few minutes while she had the energy to clear the greenhouse out ,and we are ready to start sorting out the benches ready for the seedlings ,ready for the off.
We have also brought the new urns for out the front ,the old ones all need changing due to the last two years severe frost, but that won't happen again ,all the new ones being heavy duty plastic ,not clay .
Time for me to do a little work now ,mainly meal preperation, mixed in with a tad of housework [oh joy] he he .
Catch you all later ,Fred. :-D

Susan is home now, my g.daughter collected her from the hospital about 10.30 this morning. I haven't seen her today, her brothers have visited but she is very tired though feeling more relaxed now. Have spoken to her a couple of times but she is still a bit woozy from the anaesthetic and pain killerIf it's not ons. Just have to take it one day at a time now.

Thank you all for your messages, pleased to hear Dorothy can at least read our messages - miss reading hers. Hope you are keeping well Dorothy - have you still got snow?

I am feeling totally wacked now - and my BP check with my doctor today was not good but he says it is the stress. A month ago it was way down, that was at a hospital visit for a check up. Doctor reckons not to worry about it but will see me again in 4 weeks. Maybe a good nights sleep will help.
Seem to have the laptop sorted out now - though it does feel a bit awkward at times - the cursor keeps running away from me!!!

Take care all
Love & God bless

Morning to all again folks or should i say after noon ,i am now finished on the wifes new puter ,and have handed it over to her ,which will keep her happy for an hour or two ,putting all her programmes and apps back in ,but even as i loaded the platform and basic parts in ,like the printer ,i noticed that is was way in advance of the old one ,much much quicker and more precise ,in fact ,faster ,and to my mind quicker than vista or windows 7, i don't wonder that so many punters stuck with xp pro.
Hope everyone is having a quick sit down before the weekend hits us ,me ,i am jamming cotton wool in my ears ,the lads are here fitting the porch roof ,and the hammer drills are making one hell of a noise lol.
Catch you later all ,stay safe everyone ,no matter where you may be ,Fred :- .D

I have just read your posts Katherine ,and don't know what to say to you ,but having lost My dad ,stepdad, mother ,and sister to cancer ,i have an inkling as to how you must be feeling right now.
Life can be as you say ,very unfair .
As Bill has already said to you ,feel free to p m me anytime ,so you have at least two old forces lags you can give vent to your feelings to ,knowing we are both there for you ,and your family .Don't despair though ,my mum fought two different cancers for many years ,before dying in her 75 year .

Thank you Bill, Susan is in surgery now. My daughter in Law took her at 7 a.m. and she was first on the list. A friend of mine is a nurse on her ward and will be looking after her - though they do not stay in hospital for very long these days. She will probably be home tomorrow in the care of the District Nurse. Trying to keep myself busy but not really able to concentrate too much right now. Actually the surgery is the easy bit - it what follows that we have to cope with, or I should say that we have to watch her trying to cope with.

Won't hang around at the moment - got to try to keep busy. Don't understand why some people keep getting the raw deal. Life can be a b***h at times.

God bless

Kathleen Report 29 Feb 2012 21:58

Hello Brenda, Fred, Bill and anyone looking in - sorry not to have been more active as I promised to be. Unfortunately lfe has been a little fraught just lately and, not wanting to be a right misery, I thought it best to wait a while.

I do need a little bit of "uplifting" right now. Just as I thought I was going to be saying how great everything was - my daughter will be having surgery tomorrow as her cancer has returned. After 5 years in remission last February she was told she only needed to have yearly checks, so in January had a mammagram prior to seeing her Oncologist this month. Last time she had a Lumpectomy followed a couple of weeks later by removal of the Lymph Nodes - now it has affected the whole breast and spread to other Lymph Nodes, so tomorrow it is a Mastectomy. plus whatever else they need to remove. She is adamant that she will not have chemo again - however we hope that her Oncologist will be able to persuade her.
Would love a "virtual" hug or two right now - and a prayer or two if you are so inclined.
Sorry to be such a misery but - as I am sure you will understand - the rest of the family are not feeling any better than me.

Thank you for being there - and I promise to be more "up-beat" next time.
Love to you all
God bless
Kathleen
