II am tracing a family where all the children have the third name as LONGMATE. I feel this may have been a surname back in the family. Has anyone heard of this name?

I have several ancestors who have a surname as a second christian name, which were the maiden names of a mother/grandmother or other ancestor.

If you try searching on FreeBMD on all types for the surname there is a reasonable list from Lincolnshire. Does that fit in somehow?
