ARSTEE Report 8 Mar 2012 20:25

Hi, Please could anyone help me find out if John B Colton is still alive.

He was born in Nottingham in 1938.
Married my great aunt Joan and then moved to Southend on sea with her and her parents.

I have found the deaths of her parents there in 1974, 1997 and Joan in 2004 but can't find anything for him ?

I'd love to get in touch with him if he's still alive and find out about their life down there as the family just lost touch with each other and didn't hear from them in years.

I don't think thay had any children.

Thanks :-)

Try 192.com.

Enter
John Cotton
Essex.

There are a few free results, one of which (with address ) is for J Cotton in Leigh-on-sea.

Worth the price of a postage stamp, even if it turns out to be incorrect??

Sorry :-( :-0

Can't see a death up to 2005 on another site, in Essex.

There are 2 J CoLTons on 192.com in Essex, but neither in the Southend area.

Hi Arstee

His birth wasreg in J-S 1937 and there was a poss re.marriage for him in 1975, he married you Aunt in 1968, do you know if they could have divorced. ?

ARSTEE Report 8 Mar 2012 22:02

Detective - thats ok :O)

No, i don't know his middle name, I got excited when I saw the Nottingham listing but them remembered there was another one with a B I'd seen listed born in Nottingham so thats probably that one..... John Brown Colton.

Sheila - Hi :-) I have no idea if they divorced, the family lost touch pretty much as soon as they moved to Southend. i have looked at what you found though and think that the re-marriage in 1975 in nottingham was most probably the other John Colton who lives in Nottingham and married also in 1968 but to Joan Anderson - mine was Joan Denton

Thanks to you both for looking :-)

Arstee

It was a John B Colton who married Joan Anderson /Denton in 1967 but in 1975 there is another marriage same place same name, do you know when they moved to Sothend, there are a few poss remarriages for Joan too,
1 is in Worksop 2 of these are in Essex.

Sorry - John Brown Colton was born in 1858 not 1958 - oops

I'm confused about the marriages now though, strange there is a John B Colton married a Joan Denton and a John B Colton married a Joan Anderson - both J-F-M 1968 - an error I think ?

So, you may be right Sheila, that could be a re-marriage ?

Joan died in Southend though as Joan Colton .... ?

Can you get the death certificate for Joan to see if he was named as the informant - or the local newspaper archives to see if any funeral arrangements etc were published?

You might have to get in touch with the actual local newspaper, as a lot is not online.

His sister is listed by a few people on here, I just checked but I found her on a local nottingham site though asking for people to contact her if they knew her or her brothers so hopefully she'll get back to me as I'm not just cold calling her :-)

*If* you decide to purchase Joan's DC, you could check the address of the informant, if a relative on

http://www.zoopla.co.uk/house-prices/

That would tell you if it has been sold since the death. Even if it has been sold, it is possible that the current owners have a forwarding adress, or can tell you who the solicitors/estate agents were. You then may be able to find contact details or have a letter forwarded through them.

However, his sister seems a better bet.
