Perhaps you had better buy some certificates for confirmation, or to rule out.

well talking to family we dont know whether when he split from his 1st wife she then found out she was pregnant still leaving the one in 1945 a possiblity. and 14 years is again an approximate so it may have been less than that

well if he was with your grandmother 14 years before they married it is likely that he married and had the children between 1937 and 1945...there are only a few marriages for Frederick Court during that period... and you can probably discount the one in Durham because of the later child.

So if he married during the war and he was in the army he could have married anywhere?

Sophie

Sophie Report 27 Apr 2012 21:44

yeah i found it and it said previous marriage dissolved. he was a propeller shaper. also he married my grandmother in 1958 and apparently they had been together approximately 14 years before. but with him being born in 1919 i dont think that he would of been married before 1940 as he was in the army as well.

Have you found your grandfather's marriage cert yet? it may help, as aside from possibly saying whether he was previously married it will give you his occupation.

oh ok thanks

Freebmd only goes up to around the 1940s for most areas Sophie, the later births are being transcribed and will appear there eventually... but they are already on here and other sites to which some of us subscribe.

Sophie

Sophie Report 27 Apr 2012 21:33

oh yeah id forgotten about that.. think i have hit a wall. although when i looked on freebmd and cross referenced it there was no record of them having a child after 1945 so dont really know where to go from here.

Rambling Report 27 Apr 2012 21:30

As has been posted on here that couple had another child in 1958 so probably unlikely, as your grandfather remarried that same year.

Found a marriage in 1941 to a woman surnamed Harker. They had a child in 1945 named Gary Court. But i cannot see wether the frederick w is warren or another middle name.

any clues on how to find that out? or if anyone is related to Gary Court. This was in West Durham.

Sophie

Sophie Report 27 Apr 2012 15:09

also is there a way of not just cross referencing the surnames but also the first names to get a more accurate result or does that not work?

Sophie

Sophie Report 27 Apr 2012 14:10

is there a way of finding divorce records?

his middle initial is Warren.

Rambling Report 27 Apr 2012 12:56

Good luck! If you know what Frederick's middle initials stood for you could also look out for any boys with those names, it's not always the case but sons may be given one of their father's names... father's first name as a middle name perhaps.

Sophie

Sophie Report 27 Apr 2012 12:51

oh thats great thanks ill try that :-D

are you on

http://www.freebmd.org.uk/ rather than the BMds here Sophie?

if so make a list of the marriages of Frederick Court between 1938 to 1958 , note the wifes surname..

then go back to the search page
put

Surname Court

mothers surname ...'Smith' ( and work through all the wives surnames you listed...and the children of that couple will show up.

Sophie

Sophie Report 27 Apr 2012 12:40

how do i cross reference the names? im on freebmd now and im not sure how to find out how many children they had?

Rambling

Rambling Report 27 Apr 2012 12:35

You could try working in reverse if you are sure he had 2 children...

there are a number of Frederick Court marriages between 1930 and 1958, discount the ones with other initials and see who Frederick or Frederick W married...then cross reference the wife's name with births on Freebmd eg. Court / Smith.

There are definitely some that can be discounted that way as they had more children... if you are sure it was North of Wirral that would also whittle them down.
