Hi,

I have the electoral rolls for the time that Harry was living there..send me the address and I'll have a look. It shows everyone in the household.

Also...does Paul have a middle initial?...there are quite a few in the Preston/ Blackpool coast area..

PM me.

Have you checked the electoral register for the years Harry was living there? Just to check who he was living with. And who lived there in the intervening years.
I would also be cheeky and ask the neighbours for any help they can give you.
What a very troublesome family!

Jan,

I can't believe the amount of bad luck I am having.
I have obtained Harry's death certificate & it appears to be for the correct person - Harry Whiteside born Lytham 7th August 1922However there are no relations listed as the certificate has been completed by the coroner.
Also the address given is about 1 mile away from my home & I never knew!
I have checked the address & someone else has been living there since 2002 almost 9 years after Harry's death.
Where can I posssibly go from here or do I just give up?

Don't worry, I have tied myself up in many knots doing my family tree, barked up the wrong one more than once!

Well, if you are sure you have found your May's birth, I would be tempted to get the cert and find her birth date, so deaths can be searched using it. Obviously she might still be living - or at least still living after 2006 - but it's worth a shot.

But wait & see if Harry's death cert helps you first. Costs are going to mount up alarmingly at this rate if you aren't careful.

Sorry my fault.I have been assuming that the lady who died in Leeds was my mother & transcribed her birth date onto my records.
All I know about May is that her birth was registered in the last quarter of 1919 & so September 25th seemed to tie in with these dates.
The lady whose death certificate I obtained was born in Leeds, not the Fylde,& her maiden name was Douglas, not Whiteside.
I have run into so many dead ends & gone up so many blind alleys that I have started to confuse myself.
Sorry I'm being such a pain, however should May still be alive by any chance,it will all be worthwhile in the end.
Thanks again.I owe you at least one stiff drink!

Can I just ask how you know the May Bell who died 2001 is not yours? I can see why you sent for it, same birth date - quite a co-incidence.

Dear Jan & Rose,

May's birth date was 25th September 1919 in Lancashire & when I say she disappeared what I mean is I simply haven't been able to find any trace of her.
The last address I have is when she stayed with her mother Catherine at 46,Acregate Lane in Preston in 1945.
She appears to have given birth ti June in Northumberland, but that's as much as I have been able to discover.
Still better luck with Harry's side of the family I hope.
As for the Paul who posts on here.I have tried contacting quite a number of Paul or P.Whitesides & none have been the right one,but I will try these again.
Thanks once again for all your help.

Regards,
Mike

Michael,

Have you tried contacting Paul through Search Trees at the top. Looks like he's added his name 3 times. Try sending a message to all 3.

Hello again! A pity those things didn't work out - hopefully Harry's death cert will be more helpful.
Do you know May's exact birth date?

Michael Report 21 May 2012 12:45

Not worked out as I had hoped.I ordered the death certificates for both Mildred Whiteside & also for the lady who I believed was my mother,a May Bell who died in Leeds in 2001,but it transpires that neither of them is the right person.
Is my mother still alive?
The people I am trying to trace are May Bell (nee Whiteside ) born 1919 in Lancashire.Married Richard John Bell in 1942.Had 3 children John(1942),June (1946) & myself in 1945 & has since disappeared off the face of the earth along with John & June.
Mildred was the wife of my uncle Harry ( whose death certificate I have ordered today) & they have a son Paul, who I have also been unable to trace.
Help!!!!!!

Strange how everything comes back to Preston.I will certainly obtain copies of both death certificates & as I live in Preston myself I shouldn't have any problem following this up.
Thanks once again for everything.I appreciate that yourself & your colleagues are all volunteers who give their time freely & you don't know just what a great help & support you've been.

Thanks again,

Also - looking on 192.com there is a Mildred Whiteside on electoral register Preston 2002-2005. Might be worth checking out.

Just to say, if any doubt about the death, you might want to get Harry's cert instead - the downside being it is so much earlier.

Name: Harry Whiteside
Birth Date: 7 Aug 1922
Date of Registration: Aug 1993
Age at Death: 71
Registration district: Preston and South Ribble
Inferred County: Lancashire
Register Number: D39C
District and Subdistrict: 5881D
Entry number: 210

You have to order the death cert. This can be done online from the GRO. You need to register, and use a credit/debit card. Alternatively there is a form you can download if you prefer.
Certs cost £9.25 and are sent by post - usually take a week or so.
You need all the info on the entry above to order the cert.

Jan,

This sounds very much like my Aunt Mildred.I know that her husband Harry died in 1993 in Preston & these dates would make him 5 years older than her.
As I'm very unfamiliar with these things, could you tell me please, how I can see a copy of the death records? Are they available on this site,or do I need to go through some other official channels?
Sorry to be a pain, but I feel as though this could be the best lead so far.
Thanks again so much to both yourself & your colleagues for all your help over the past couple of years.
The search goes on!
