Where can I find more information?

I'm wondering if somebody could advise me on where to look now.

I've found a document on Ancestry that I think is my great aunt. Her name is May Bartlett and the information is what I already have about her going to Canada. The document is a boarder crossing from Canada to the US in 1923. It states her mother as Edith Fletcher.

Edith arrived in Canada in 1920 with her 4 children. As May Bartlett put her mother as Fletcher, this probably means she married. How can I find out more? I have tried Ancestry but can't find anything. I've been searching this family for so long now, each time I find a new bit of information I get stuck.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks
Maisy

Thank you for putting this up.

Yes, I'm trying to find a marriage and yes she was a widow although I've never found a marriage for her! Her husband died in 1919 and that's when she went to Canada.

Do you have World Wide access?

Ontario, Canada, Marriages, 1801-1928

If you know her maiden name, she might have been married under that if she was never legally married. Have you been able to marry-off any of May's siblings? The image 'might' give a Fletcher signature

I have looked for Edith under both her 'married' name which is Bartlett and her maiden name which is Jarvis. I haven't been able to find anything that fits. I have looked for a marriage for May but not for the other children. Maybe I should try that and see what comes up.

Thanks for the suggestion.

You are amazing! That is her. Her father was William Jarvis and her mother Matilda Stone. That's cheered me up, thank you very much. You're a great detective!!

She's obviously lied about her aged, knocked a few years off.

Where did you find this entry so I can see it for myself?

Thank you very very much

It's on Ancestry, in Ontario, Canada, Marriages, 1801-1928. You do need a WW sub to view, which I suspect you have.

I used the card catalogue to bring up that data base, then put Fletcher in the main surname box and Edith as a spouse.

Since there were no dates, a number of results came up, and then start to look for one after 1920 - hence the 1926 transcribed date.
You ought to be able to get it up if you follow the spellings & date on the transciption

You have no idea how grateful I am to you. I've since found it on Ancestry.

Thank you once again.

I've been searching for my Bartlett's in Canada and America for some time now and I've had some success but really don't know how to find out more.

Edith Bartlett went to Canada in 1920 with her younger children, she already had a son living there. I've found a marriage for Edith, thanks to another member on here. I've searched for her death but cannot find anything and I've tried contacting people on Ancestry and they haven't replied. I know that Edith went to America but returned to Canada to live. I have marriages for both her daughters but the sons are really difficult.

I did contact a lady in America who is 85 years old and she gave me a little bit of information but couldn't remember too much. She was a big help though.

Edith had 2 sons, Arthur b.1901 and William b.1909. There was also another son Henry who had previously gone to Canada as a young farmer, he was born in 1897.

I did find a Henry C. Bartlett but it always states on the census that he was born in Michigan. I have found a death for Henry C. Bartlett with the correct date of birth who is buried in Hawaii but I'm still not sure it's the one I'm looking for.

Can anyone help me please?

Thanks
Maisy

I've found some more information on this family but really have no ideal where to look now.

I've got a Henry C Barltett who went to Canada as a boy in 1910 and I have since found a document where he went to America to live in 1923. I know it's the right one because he says that his place of birth was Kingston, England. He was a solider and I think I've found him on the census of 1930 and 1940 in the US. On the 1940 census he states that he is married but he is living on a military base, all the other names are men! I would like to know who he married, I've tried various things but cannot find anything at all.

I've found a death for Henry C Bartlett b.2 Apr 1897 and died in 1967. He is buried at the Punchbowl Cemetery in Honolulu. I would like to get his death certificate but I need to show that I am related otherwise I must wait 70 years from his death! Can anybody point me in the right direction or help me with this?

Thank you for reading this.

Maisy

I forgot to say that on the census he states that he's from Michigan.
