Where were you born so we know where she was?

Hi patchem, her middle name is Helen, again thanks for replies, I do have my adoption file and all the documents in it are signed Helen not Thelma. Also please could someone tell me the proper channels because I went for an interview with a councillor and just got a list of places like ancestry which is fine and I have enjoyed looking into my family history but I didn't get any info how to actually find a living relative.

patchem Report 16 Nov 2012 21:01

What is her middle name, please?

Flip Report 16 Nov 2012 20:46

Hi Andy,

I'm afraid anyone can use any name they wish, variants of their original name or a completely different name. Just so long as they are not assuming the name for frauduent purposes.

If you are in doubt as to the info provided then try tracing her siblings and their families for leads.

I also advocate going through official channels - do you have you adoption files for the background etc?

Edit, I just want to add,I don't think you have done anything wrong in searching. Your opening post was discrete and did not publicise anything personal about your relatives.

Good luck
Flip

Thanks to everyone that suggested ordering death certificate for my grandfather, I hadn't realised it would give me extra information! Also looking at local newspaper is an excellent idea, hadn't thought of that.
Also thanks for messages of support! It means a lot.
I think my birth mum may use her middle name as her first name, does anyone happen to know if she would be able to use this on official documents ie marriage certificate or electoral register? And also could this be the reason I can't seem to find any information about her?
Thanks again Andy

If you think these are your grandparents - and given the other info we have I think they must be - I recommend you get Norman's death cert, as it is the later death. The informant is usually a relative, and the cert will give the relationship, plus the informant's address at the time.

Sometimes the 'proper channels' can take forever. It can be a bureaucratic nightmare and in the end frustration sets in.

I do not think Andyb68 has done anything wrong so far. These sites are not secure and so anything on here can be googled and read. I for one was grateful to be told this and immediately deleted anything I did not want made 'public'. However, finding 'living relatives' is a delicate area anyway.

There is another point too. I put a request on for ancestors and one helper came through with all the personal information I already had; they had not understood the original request and therefore, they were guilty of putting my personal details out there for all to see.

You are doing Ok Andy.

Good luck,

Sappho

Thelma is Thelma H Squire. I cannot see a marriage for her - can anyone?

As Rose has put, there was a Thelma H Squire on 192.com in 2002 in Camberley.

Did you apply for the death certificates, or look at reports in the local newspapers, to see if the deaths of her parents would give any further information?

its not your fault if you have made an error Andy.and I cant see what you have done wrong..you havent given a full name nor like you said an email, address or phone number...and as it says they are "guidelines" not rules...I was adopted too and found my birth mum and family..successfully may I add...and Reggie yes I did understand the proccesses thankyou ;-)

Hi everyone who has replied, as you can probably see I have only just recently subscribed to genes reunited and I'm not completely aware of the guidelines, having said that I thought this was what it is for, to find long lost relatives. I briefly read the guidelines and can't really see what I have done wrong. I have only put names on there, no addresses or email. I didn't actually realise people help you out of the kindness of their heart and I really appreciate all your help. I have traced quite a lot of the family tree with no real problem but can't find anything recent on any of the family.
Anyway just wanted to say thanks to everyone that has researched this for me.

Fiona

You clearly didn't fully understand the processes involved in the making of 'Long Lost Families'

Nor were we told how many other people they had tried to help, where they had not had a successful outcome................

Fiona

Fiona Report 15 Nov 2012 20:49

How come all the hoo hah about "proper channels" adoption register..etc...not many people join the register..only a small percentage...and if I remember rightly Long Lost Families was sponsored by Genes and 6 of the 7 programmes were adoption related...so how is someone supposed to find their family on a "living relatives site" without naming them?? If genes have a problem with it they ought to maybe make it a secure site...just a suggestion :-D

Andy

If you were adopted, you must go through proper channels.....................add your details to the national adoption contact register

This is not a secure site........

Looks like Norman married in Hampshire too. Quite something having triplets back in the 40's, especially if they all survived.

Guess this isn't revealing too much, as it can easily be found on Freebmd:

Name: Norman D Squire
Spouse Thelma Webb
Date of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep 1939
Registration district: Newport
Inferred County: Monmouthshire, Shropshire
Volume Number: 11a

Have you got the death certificate of your grandfather (1993, Portsmouth?) for information about the informant who could be one of the children?
