help in finding my grandmother Mary Margaret Magee

Very recently I discovered that my mum was adopted. Unfortunately my mum is now passed away, but as far as we can tell she didn't know she was adopted, as her adopted parents died when she was young and before giving her any information.
After receiving her original birth certificate we discovered that her mother was registered as Mary Margaret Magee, and address given Antrim road Belfast. My mum was born in the jubilee hospital belfast in 1941, and people have suggested that Antrim road may have either been a false address or address of a work house.
After searching Bdm records in belfast I found a Mary Margaret Magee who married 1945 aged 24, but cannot find any real possible births records for her.
She named her father as Thomas John Magee and he was a gardener.
Can anyone give me any advice on where to go from here? I have 6 brothers and sisters and we would all as a family love to trace a family connection on my mother's side.

Welcome to the boards, Aideen.

Have you looked to see if anyone on here has Mary Magee in their tree?

Hi Aideen,
The address may have been run by nuns also Mary may not have come from Belfast often being sent away to have a baby,

betweeen 1920 and 1925,there are baptisms

Mary Margaret,-------1922 Donegal.
Mary Margaret,------ 1923 Wexford.
Mary -------------------1921 Belfast..
Margaret Mary-------1922,Rathdown.
Mary--------------------1921,Bawnboy.

Her fathers occ may not be the same in 1920s as in 1940s,also the marriage you have found may not be the same Mary M.

Thanks patchem. yeah I've contacted a couple of people about their tree but no luck as of yet.
Kay, thanks for providing me with these details, how can I get more information on these baptisms?

How did you find our her birth name?

When her adoptive parents died she was fostered by a neighbouring family. The mother of that family died recently and in her belongings was some of my mother's documents including a solicitors Bill for the adoption of my mum. Luckily The bill had my mum's birth name on it.

Sounds like it was a private adoption - never heard of a solicitors bill in other cases.
be careful what you put out on the internet - the birth mother will have been promised annonimity, may come to the attention of people that could be hurt by funding such info broadcast.

Antrim Road was a much shorter road than it is today,,,in April 1941 there was a german blitz and much of Antrim Road was destroyed including many terrace houses was raised to the ground ,shops and other properties,

Belfast Muesum and Archives hold electoral books and street directories,,,,,,,,,Antrim Road was a new name and formally was Duncain Street.
Perhaps if you can find the Magee family in the electorals? or Mary with a relative?
