If your mother was adopted, advise her to add herself to the national adoption contact register.........assuming, of course, that this refers to England/Wales

If her mother is likely to be alive, please think carefully about what info you post on here...............

PM also received asking what info is needed. Have advised to reply on the thread with her mums name etc

Also advised If her mum was adopted then would need her birth name ,

Subject to all this not being sensitive info re a living person

Caroline
Has your mum got her actual certificate or have you just found the ref for it.?

If she hasn't got her certificate then you need to buy it from the GRO using the ref you have found.

This is where to buy it

www.gro.gov.uk. Costs £9.25 using the GRO ref you have
Make sure you quote her name as its shown in the index

You have to register on the site .free, then follow the order form. You MUST tick the box that asks if the GRO ref is known then all you need is to specify its a birth cert and put in the GRO refs where asked for.

Shirley - typo in GRO site address. You caught the C rather than the V ;-) :-D

The most important thing is - who is wanting to find this person? You or your Mum? It really is quite important for your Mum to do it ( at least do it with her, not for her) and there is thinking to do , as well as simply fact finding.

Caroline,s mum has her adoption file with a mums name , the problem is there's no age or any further info on the lady and its not a unique name.

It will be speculation on the mum so have advised her mum to add her interest on the National Adoption contact register

Any Birth record for the name is pure speculation and wont help with later info if there was an unplanned baby
