Hi there,I am searching for my second cousin, David Newman.

David was born March 29th 1967 to Terry and Vicky Newman(Hoffman).
They lived in Edenvale,Transvaal.

Terry was an immigrant from England and Vicky was born in South Africa.

The family moved to England a couple of years later, but eventually returned to live in Edenvale.

In 1975 Terry and Vicky divorced and later Terry met a lady named Daphne, (no surname) who became the love of his life. He lived with Daphne until his sudden death in 1989
From 1981-1985 David was a weekly boarder at Queens High school in Kensington, staying with Terry and Daphne during the holidays. The remaining weekends were spent with his mother, Vicky.
At age 18 David entered the army, serving in the intelligence Corps at Kimberly for 7 months. The remaining time of his 2 years service was spent at Primerose and Kempton Park.

In 1989 I received a letter from Daphne, telling me of Terry's death on August 25th.Unfortunately she did not advise me of her surname. They had just bought a home together in Klopper Park, but I don't know if the home was sold, or Daphne lived there.

David's mother has remarried a couple of times, and the last I heard was living on a hobby farm near Roodeport.

David would be 46 years old today, and I would love to find him. There is a possibility that he may have moved to England, as he used to visit his grandmother there.
Terry and David were avid sailors.

Maybe there is someone out there that may have known David or his family.

I do have photographs of David, Vicky and my cousin Terry if needed

Hi Alberta.
I can't help with South African records personally. However, have you any idea when and where Terry was born, and if his 1st name was Terry or maybe Terence?
Might be possible to track down other family members in the UK.
Otherwise, have you tried finding David on Facebook?

Hi Jan, wow that was quick! :-)

Yes,Terry was Terence J and was born in London. I do have the details of his birth but I have researched the Newman family and his mother's, the Hendersons.
The only thing is that in a letter from Terry he told me that he never kept in touch with either side of his family in England.
His father was deceased, and he had his mum Annie with him in S.A.
Annie went back to England where she died in 1981.

I have tried Facebook for David, and I have found a couple of guys that could possibly be him, but I have had no response.
I search every couple of weeks to check if there are any other likely candidates.

I have e-mailed Queen's High School several times, but no response from there either.

I also have tried to find Vicky his mother, as she really is the only one that holds the key to David's whereabouts.

The only record that is showing for these various names in the database
All Archives Repositories and National Registers of non-public records
http://www.national.archsrch.gov.za/sm300cv/smws/sm300dl
(search for terence and newman, it seems he was also previously married?)
is the divorce of Terence and Vicky, unfortunately. I had hoped for something about Terence's estate that might show Daphne's name but that may be too recent for that database.

You might be able to obtain information about his will/estate from the the local authorities though and it could provide information about Daphne and/or Terry.
There is contact information here
http://www.national.archives.gov.za/aboutnasa.html

the divorce record shows Depot TAB which is listed here
http://www.national.archives.gov.za/aboutnasa.html
as

National Archives Repository (Records of the former Transvaal Province and its predecessors as well as of magistrates and local authorities)
Postal address: Private Bag X236, PRETORIA 0001.
Street address: 24 Hamilton Street, Arcadia, PRETORIA.

Just because I was confused and in case anyone else is, Kensington where David went to school is in Johannesburg, not London. :-)
(I had wondered whether him spending weekends with his mother meant that Vicky was in England ...)
Germiston which is where Klopper Park is, is just outside Johannesburg on the map.
Roodepoort is on the other side of Johannesburg to the west.

Have you considered writing letter to the editor of local newspapers?

Roodepoort Northsider (Roodepoort, Johannesburg) [In English]
Roodepoort Record (Roodepoort, Johannesburg) [In English]
there are links to both papers' sites there, hosted in the same place, and I would imagine they both are likely quite small affairs.

Hi Joonie Cloonie, well I do have a weird story to tell you...
I found the divorce record of Terry and Vicky from your directions. So I can update my records for his divorce taking place in 1976. .But I was not able to access anything else, such as Terry's death etc.

So,I decided to go with a newspaper ad to find Vicky. I found a small paper in Roodepoort(thxs to you) which was her last known living place.
I set up the ad, which was quite reasonable pricewise for a week.
I was all ready to hit the button, when I rec'd an e-mail advising that there was a message on Facebook from a David Henderson!!!

I had left 2 messages on a page for a David Henderson that I thought may have been him.
So, I was thrilled when I read his few words, that told me" yes, he was the one, I haven't been of Facebook for some time"

Of course I replied as fast as I could. I told him that I was so thrilled that I had finally found him after all these years etc. There was no answer from him. So I wrote again, verifying that he was related to my family etc.

I have not rec'd any other messages from him. I am shocked!!
It seems such a coincidence that I got his message at the same time I was submitting the ad.?????
I hope you do not mind me telling you this, I just needed to let you know my story! Ha! Ha!

So, I'll wait and see what happens now.........

I guess it just goes to show that if you try enough things, one may work out :-)

but how unfortunate that he has not replied further but he may just be very busy, so here's hoping you do catch up with him! especially since you two seem to be so tuned in :-D
