I have trawled ancestry with no success. As far as we are aware she was born in Paris to French parents.

I believe those records would be held locally and wouldn't be online .

If her parents were married and the marriage was in England, the marriage certificate should give her mother's father's name, as well as her mother's age.

Depending on how common her surname is, you *might* be able to get an idea of the most likely location here

the information that has to be supplied is the person's full name, date of birth and parents' names

On the application form you can give a date range rather than a date

Thankyou everyone for their suggestions. I have followed up on all the links and using google translate have managed to contact someone in the State archives. Just hope I get a responce.
Its a bit dissapointing about the birth certificate because unfortunately the parents are not known. We have a name and date and place of birth.
Hopefully the census which is accessable up until 1975 will have her living at home with her parents. We can then apply for her birth certificate. fingers crossed. and thanks again for all the help recieved. :-)

Have you considered ordering the certificate without parents ( extrait sans filiation ), it is free ( gratuit ), and would at least confirm the name and date and place of birth.
