Hi guys, I came on here for help last year trying to trace my BM, everyone was so helpful and I am now in touch with her regularly thanks to you guys! I am trying to help my sister trace her family, we have found her BM's family and she has a brother that she is now in contact with. We have been trying to trace her BF but he has a common surname and we are not even sure how his first name is spelt, we don't have very much info about him, (only his aprox birth year, a school and that he is not registered with a GP in England) I have checked deaths but couldn't find anything so it looks like he may be abroad. He is aware of her existence but he was very young when she was born. Thank you in advance!

See if the school is listed on Friendsreunited and post a message on that. If someone from there can give you the correct spelling its a start. As you haven't given an indication of when your sister was born, her BF might be of the generation who isn't interested in social networking.

Similarly see if the school still exists - they might be willing to look at their records and at least give you his year of birth, or say that he left at the end of year 11 (5th form) in July 19??. From that you can work out an approx yob.

Although we hope it is not the case, on-line death records only go up to 2006. However, you do need more details to be able to use those effectively ie spelling and approx yob.

Thanks for reply, we don't know the name of the school but my sister did have brief contact with her BM's sister who said she went to school with him and was in the same class, if this is so, it was obviously a mixed sex gramma school, unfortunately her BM is no longer around to question and her 'Aunt' became suspicious and broke off contact. I have tried researching schools but didn't get very far, he attended this school in 1966. (The year my sister was born) I'm just really stuck on this one and getting rather frustrated.

If your sister was born 1966, then yob is going to be around 1950 give or take? I'm assuming he was still a student. If you've been able to work out when the BM's sister was born, then their ages would be the same +/- 1

Does your sister's original BC give the normal place of residence for her mother? If so, look for Grammar schools in that area. If in doubt, contact the Local Education Authority - unless they were living in an area where Grammar schools still exist, its probably been changed to a Wide Ability (Comprehensive) School or Academy. That's assuming that it wasn't surplus to requirements and closed.

Presumably your sister has done the obvious, and added her name to the Adoption Contact Register, searched trees etc?

Yes, sorry, I worked it out that he was born around 1951, they both lived in Fawley but I still can't find a school, her BM was in the year below her BF.
Yes she has added her name and I have been looking at trees for her, she has had an interview with a social worker and retrieved her file but there isn't much about her father in it and his name isn't on her birth certificate. The only info we have is a little from the 'aunt' and now we are not sure if it's genuine. Thanks for your help, I guess it's just going to go round in circles unless we get more info, just don't know how.

If it's Fawley in Hampshire the school should have been Hardley School, now named New Forest Academy.

According to Yell.com, there still seems to be a Hardley School as well as New Forest School (unless that's different from New Forest Academy?).
